The Ordinary - Honest Opinions

Does anyone actually like The Ordinary? I’ve heard such mixed reviews and I’ve tried 10+ products and really have no idea if they work or not compared to when I use other brands. With their questionable owner/past, does anyone really f**k with them at this point? I think I like the lash/brow serum sorta but the applicator is so bad I don’t even bother using it anymore. At this point I only use the squalene for the occasional post makeup glow.

Re: The Ordinary - Honest Opinions

@judaspeach I like the brand and find some of their products work well for me. I’m currently using The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum 1 oz / 30 ml  and after a few days, my skin is feeling much better. (I have dry, eczema prone skin)

I’m chronicling my thoughts on it here if you want to follow along:

Review: The Ordinary Soothing Barrier & Support Serum

Skincare is so personal. Some people will love certain products/brands and others will not. If they work for you, then why not?

Re: The Ordinary - Honest Opinions

@judaspeach  I like The Ordinary. The brand is good for folks who need to fill an ingredient gap or two in their skincare routines. Example: I occasionally use The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% 1 oz/ 30 mL  because there’s not much resveratrol in my other products, and that ingredient’s good for my particular skincare goals/issues. The Ordinary’s also good for low-cost additions or substitutions in a skincare routine: perhaps someone would rather use one of TO’s granactive retinoid serums than another’s brand’s pricier retinol serum, for instance. Anyone who prefers an all-in-one product solution won’t enjoy The Ordinary though, since most of their products focus on one or two active ingredients in fairly simple formulas.

Two of my favorite TO products are The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + HA Serum for Facial Wrinkles 1 oz / 30 mL  and #The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1% Serum 1 oz / 30 ml (they’re the same serum, but one contains copper peptides). Both serums hydrate my skin very well. The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil 1 oz/ 30 mL  is part of my hand and nail care routine. I use The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA 1 oz/ 30 mL  on my bumpy tear troughs a couple times a week to reduce texture there, and The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% Exfoliating Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL  on my neck. And The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Hyaluronic Acid Scalp Serum 60ml  has helped reduce irritation on my scalp.

As with any brand, there are some The Ordinary products my skin doesn’t like. One of them is, surprisingly, The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum  : it stung my skin each time I used it. Meanwhile, I can use a couple other brand’s niacinamide serums with no problems.

As for their questionable owner… do you mean Brandon Truaxe who died a few years ago? I don’t associate the brand today with him or his antics. 🤷‍♀️

Re: The Ordinary - Honest Opinions

Omg I feel the same way like I got the ordinary serum (not lash, hyaluronic acid serum) and it was so sticky and gooey and it felt like a really sticky primer for my skin and felt so uncomfortable I can’t even explain it! Like I got it because I saw people saying all these good things and I wanted a hyaluronic acid serum but it just wasn’t for me.

Re: The Ordinary - Honest Opinions

@judaspeach The oils are my favourite, I like the The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil 1 oz/ 30 mL  #, The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil 1 oz/ 30 mL  and the Marula. Sea buckthorn also great but needs to be mixed with something else. I like to add these to my moisturizer in the winter. I also like their AHA solution for quick exfoliating.

Re: The Ordinary - Honest Opinions

@judaspeach I have used their products in the past and have a few of their oils in my stash that I really should use up.  That said, I don't find it a brand that I'm really interested in.  I'm not a cosmetic formulator and I'd rather use one product or two products designed for my skin so that I don't have to try and figure out what kind of a cocktail of products to use.  While the products I've used in the past were fine, they weren't... cosmetically elegant and at this point in my life, I'd rather something that I find a joy in using rather than spend the time wondering if I had all of the ingredients pulled together that I need.
