Skincare for Keratosis Pilaris

I have bad KP on my arms and face. Anyone have any good product suggestions to keep it at bay?

RE: Skincare for Keratosis Pilaris

I have KP. My holy grail is Neostrata’s body smoothing lotion with 10% AHA. This is the only stuff that works and smooths out the bumps but you have to be consistent in using it (ideally every day). Sadly Sephora does not carry it. It’s a Canadian brand. I usually get it at a drag store. It’s pricey for a body lotion but so worth it.

Re: Skincare for Keratosis Pilaris

Any BHA body lotion or liquid (Paula's Choise 2% BHA liquid) and then either lactic acid (AHA) body moisturizer or any other moisturizer that you use would work. Scrubbing also helps by increasing blood circulation and removing dead skin but not without the BHA as these are similar to acne and sebum filled bumps.

I use the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel pads on the KP on my upper arms & it helps a lot. (Have to remember to use sunscreen on that area for at least a day after, though, if it'll be exposed to sun.) The peel wipes have enough product on them that I can do my face and upper arms in the same treatment, too, so that's nice!  I use it about once a week. The Dermadoctor KP scrub also does a good job for in between days, along with a light moisturizer.

Re: Skincare for Keratosis Pilaris

keratosis pilaris usually will improve with age without treatment. But if its cosmetically bothering you, things you can do:

- use mild cleanser, always moisturize everyday, don't take extremely hot baths or showers

- use products with ingredients that can act as keratolytics --- lactic acid, salicylic acid, or topical urea. these ingredients will soften and flatten the papules, but wont do too much for the redness thats associated with the papules

- second line treatment are retinoids, and these have to come from your doctor/ dermatologist
