My skin has had some major changes and I need help!

Hey guys!! So I recently started noticing that my skin has been getting a lot more oily in the last few month and my current skin care routine doesn’t really seem to help it. I wanted to see if someone would be nice enough to help me make some changes to either some or all of my products to better assist this newly developed oils coming up! I used to think I was a combination skin but I think the changes I made with my BC has kind of affected this (I noticed my hair has gotten really oily too). Any help and advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

RE: My skin has had some major changes and I need help!

Hi love, I live in Florida and my skin gets normal during winter and oily/combo during summer as it gets hotter and more humid. I use all of these cleansers and exfoliators and rotate them during the week deleting on how my skin feels/needs. -Tatcha Rice Polish Enzyme Powder -Kate Somerville Exfolikate Foaming Wash -Peter Thomas Max Complexion Pads -Belif Aqua Bomb Try to only use serums or gel moisturizers so the skin stays more balance. If I feel the skin is very oily I may leave the face cleanser on the skin 1 or 2 minutes ( you could brush your teeth while the cleanser works) rinse the cleanser of the face after rinsing the teeth and that will give some time for the cleanser to work well. Hope this helps. ilde Goncalves SephoraPro

What's your current routine, @genesis2693? Changing hormone levels with changes in BC can most definitely affect your skin!

Unless you're going through some kind of massive hormonal change, it sounds like something is severely dehydrating you, and your skin is pumping out oil to compensate. I don't know what your routine consists of, but the most obvious culprit is if you added a bunch of mattifying products and they're working far too well. When in doubt, flood it out. Up your water intake, take anything mattifying out of your routine, and make sure you're getting enough water-based hydration on your skin. Hydrating toners are fantastic, avoid anything astringent like witch hazel and if you aren't already using a hyaluronic acid serum, The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid B5 Serum is very effective for super cheap. Since hyaluronic acid sucks hydration into your skin and holds it, I like to do a second layer of hydrating toner after the serum to keep my skin phat. I always had oily skin which aged into combo, and hydration actually gets me normal, happy skin. Hopefully, the increased water and facial hydration will be enough to get your scalp back to normal, but if not, ask for advice in the hair group. You may have to switch products entirely or perhaps just add a scalp treatment, I'm absolutely no hair expert. Good luck!

Oh, just in case you don't use any mattifying products and don't know what I'm talking about, producing excessive oil can also be caused by overexfoliation. If you started using new acids and/or retinols, stop using them for a week or so while you rehydrate your skin, then add them back in very slowly, one product at a time.

Hi there! I'm not much of a professional myself with these types of things. However, there are many common reasons your skin could be getting oily. Firstly, it could be your diet. Try cutting down on soda and junk food. Secondly, another major reason your skin could be getting extremely oily would be your hair. The shampoo you're using could be too heavy for you. Lastly, another common reason would be your moisturizer. Some moisturizers can be too heavy, or have products that just do NOT agree with your skin! I have dealt with this in the past, and if you would like further help, dont be afraid to reach out to me!
