Makeup remover issues

I have tried several makeup removers, Clinique, Biocia, tarcha, and I have found that I still have makeup left on my face. Am I doing something wrong? Should I be using a scrubber instead of my fingers to get all the makeup off?? Help please! And suggestions would be much appreciated. Jaci

Re: Makeup remover issues

@Josephina77 Using a clenching balm or oil on dry face with your fingers takes off all the makeup. I would have hard time taking off all the makeup with these products only if my face or hands arenโ€™t completely dry.

If you are looking for new products, my two tried and tested favourites are Shiseido perfect cleansing oil and Shu Umeta Ultim 8 cleansing oil.

Re: Makeup remover issues

I have combo skin and I use Philosophy Purity Made Simple and it takes all of my makeup off at once plus it tones the skin all in one step. I do find it to be a bit tightening on the skin so I make sure to follow up with a hydrating serum and a great moisturizer and I have amazing results. I can tell when I use something else and nothing else seems to take my makeup off as well.

RE: Makeup remover issues

@Josephina77 I use Clinique Take Off The Day Balm as the first step in my double cleanse. Itโ€™s great to take of the initial makeup but using a cleanser after will assure your skin is free of makeup.

RE: Makeup remover issues

The first picture shows the balms or oils I use(I switch them up every once in awhile). The second picture shows the second cleanser I use after using the makeup remover. I use a toner after using both types of products and still find makeup on the cotton ball. I use warm/tepid water and my fingers with each product.

Re: RE: Makeup remover issues

How are you applying the Clinique balm or the Boscia cleansing oil? @Josephina77

You have to apply to dry skin, work in the product, add a bit of water to emulsify, continue working in, then rinse off.

I use the regular Take the Day off (two-phase remover) to remove eye-makeup first but this balm removes absolutely everything else, even liquid lipstick.

Is it possible you're missing places along your hairline/jawline? I've done that before. I get makeup on my hairline that shows up on a cotton pad.

Re: RE: Makeup remover issues

I apply the balm or oil with my fingers, to my dry face/skin. maybe I'm not using enough water to emulsify it before I rinse it off.

Re: RE: Makeup remover issues

@Josephina77  I personally think using a different tool isn't necessary, using your fingers should be enough. Is it possible you're using too much product during the first step or just not rinsing it enough? I ask because that's a common mistake I make when using balms/oils. Have you tried any micellar waters?

Re: RE: Makeup remover issues

I am not aware of what micellar water is.

Re: RE: Makeup remover issues

@Josephina77 These are some examples of micellar water. You put some on a cotton round and just wipe your face with it. I've never tried the Dr. Jart that's shown, but I love the Bioderma.

Re: RE: Makeup remover issues

@Josephina77 Micellar water is another form of makeup remover in liquid form. I use and love the Simple Brand Micellar water. You have a very solid routine so I donโ€™t know why you still have makeup left over. Try this: Balm...micellar water....cleanser....toner. If that doesnโ€™t work, let me know what setting spray you use. Lol. Cause that has it locked down! ๐Ÿ˜

Re: RE: Makeup remover issues

I actually don't use a setting spray on a regular basis.

Re: RE: Makeup remover issues

@Josephina77 One word of caution about micellar water - although the magazines are pumping them as a way to cleanse the skin without water, I've read elsewhere that you still need to cleanse your skin afterwards b/c the cleansing agents in micellar water shouldn't be left on your face.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Makeup remover issues

try using coconut oil (or any oil olive is great as well!) first as a remover and then cleanse with a gentle but strong enough cleanser (i use cetephil daily facial cleanser) and rinse. it's wprked wonders for me. the oil really takes alot off and the cleanser makes you 100%

Re: Makeup remover issues

@Josephina77 A lot of people have a hard time finding one cleanser to remove everything. Like others have mentioned, you might benefit from using a makeup remover first then following up with a regular cleanser. Whatโ€™s youโ€™re skin type? How much makeup do you typically wear?

Re: Makeup remover issues

@Josephina77 which specific products have you tried? There are different types of makeup removers and if used incorrectly they might be ineffective - for example, balm makeup removers are meant to be applied on a dry face and then emulsified and washed off with water. Applying to damp skin would be useless.

RE: Makeup remover issues

Hi. I am wondering if you have tried the double cleanse method - oil based cleanser followed by a water based foaming cleanser. This is the only method I know that truly gets the city and makeup off my face. Others swear by micellar cleansing water then a foam based. Hope you find what works!

Re: Makeup remover issues

Hi @Josephina77

What exactly are you doing to remove your make up? (Like each individual step?)  Thus far has it only been one of the makeup removers you listed below and your fingers?
