Is Herbivore Phoenix facial oil worth it? (or DIY)

I know it has amazing reviews, and I tried it on my hand and it feels lovely, but looking at the ingredient, list it seems like it's just a bunch of oils that anyone can put together if they figure out the proportions. In fact when I was looking up product reviews, I found a YouTube tutorial for a DIY version. So what do you think? Is it worth the splurge?

@rottenrope beautypedia gives it 3/5 stars:

Spoiler

Herbivoreโ€™s Phoenix Facial Oil has a lot going for it, but its fragranced formula holds it back from being a foolproof recommendation.

Weโ€™ll start with the good news: Phoenix Facial Oil is comprised of several non-fragrant oils (including jojoba, rosehip and chia) that provide beneficial fatty acids, antioxidants and soothing components to skin. These oils simultaneously do a beautiful job of hydrating and softening dry skin while imparting a dewy glow.

Where the formula goes slightly downhill is with the last two ingredients: Neroli oil and Moroccan rose, both of which contain fragrance components that research shows can irritate skin. Their scent isnโ€™t overpowering and dissipates rather quickly, so we arenโ€™t overly concerned, but fragrance free is always the better way to go for the health of your skin (see More Info to learn why).

We also have to mention that the clear packaging allows light exposure which reduces the effectiveness of the antioxidant-rich oils present. For maximum potency, store Phoenix Facial Oil in a dark place, such as a drawer or cabinet, to limit exposure.

PROS:
  • Contains non-fragrant oils that provide beneficial fatty acids, antioxidants and soothing benefits.
  • Hydrates and softens dry skin.
CONS:
  • Contains fragrant oils known to irritate skin.
  • See-through packaging limits the effectiveness of the formula if not stored properly.
