I’m new to skincare where do I start?

I’m new to skincare where do I start? I recently started having interest in skincare but I don’t know where to start. Can y’all help a girl out?

Re: I’m new to skincare where do I start?

If I were you I would take a look at some YouTube videos, they can be quite informative (Hyram and mixed makeup have good info). Also, if you're looking for good products on a budget I would suggest checking out Hyram's channel.

You should definitely start with the basics: cleanser, moisturizer and SPF. Then once you know your skin type and concerns you can also add a serum to your routine. If you are in your 20s then you can also introduce retinol twice a week during the evening (the Inkey List or Naturium 1% retinol is a good starter product).

Ps. Once you know more about your skin concerns then you should ask for product recommendations šŸ™‚

Re: I’m new to skincare where do I start?

@maryjeanwatson  Welcome to the world of skincare! I find it’s best to start by asking yourself these questions:

  1. What’s your skin type/behavior? Dry everywhere, oily everywhere, balanced (neither too dry nor oily), or combo (perhaps oily in one area and dry everywhere else)?
  2. Do you have any skin issues or goals? What do you want skincare products to do for you? We all have different answers and don’t all need the same types of products.
  3. Are you skin-sensitive or allergic to anything? Example: folks with soy allergy may want to avoid skincare products that contain soy. And some people’s skin can’t tolerate vitamin C (ascorbic acid).
  4. Do you have a budget or price cap?

A good skincare routine can be as simple as non-drying cleanser (PM, optional AM), moisturizer (PM & AM), and broad spectrum sunscreen (AM, at least SPF 30). Heck, in the morning you might even skip moisturizer and let sunscreen do that job. You can add products to that routine once you figure out if you need anything more. Not everyone does.

You give the most thoughtful advice @WinglessOne. Those are great points and handy questions to ask yourself before diving into the skincare pool. 🄽🩵

well that depends on a lot. how old are you for starters? what’s your skin type?

Re: I’m new to skincare where do I start?

@maryjeanwatson @First you have to figure out your skin type. You can go to your local Sephora store and ask for a skin scan.
