Help! Sensitive, Combination/Oily Skincare Regimen!

I have combination skin (more on the oily side) that is also sensitive/sensitized. I’ve been fairly lucky in that my skin does not break out bad/tends to be clear of any major blemishes. BUT, I have tried products in the past that have burned my skin (left red marks for a week+) and caused more pimples to pop up. No matter what I’ve tried, 1/3 through the day I have to wet my face and pay it dry to get rid of the oil I feel sitting on my face. Any cleanser and moisturizer recommendations? A full skincare regimen preferably! Thanks 🙂

Re: Help! Sensitive, Combination/Oily Skincare Regimen!

Hi @Maddyjo319. A basic routine would be cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. I have dry skin, but it’s very sensitive too. Here are the parts of my routine that might work with your skin.

Cleanser

The INKEY List Hyaluronic Acid Cleanser 5 oz/ 150 mL or Byoma Jelly Cleanser. I’ve used both and loved them. They’re gentle on the skin but I feel nice and fresh after using them. Byoma is available at my local drugstore (I’m in Canada, so Shoppers Drug Mart). Both are suitable for different types of skin. I tried CeraVe’s cleansers. They didn’t irritate me skin but they were waaay too drying for me. Since you’re on the oily side, you might have more luck.

Moisturizer

SEPHORA COLLECTION All Day Hyaluronic Acid Hydrator Moisturizer is non-irritating. I have dry skin so I need all the moisture I can get. You might be able to concentrate it more on your dry areas and feather it out where you’re not.

Sunscreen

Clarins Dry Touch Facial Sunscreen SPF 50 This one also worked well for my sensitive skin. The bonus is that it smells pleasant and doesn’t leave any white cast. It’s meant for normal skin, but I didn’t have any issues with it once I had the rest of my skincare on.

@Maddyjo319 Here's some recommendations from The Ordinary and INKEY list as they are fairly affordable!

The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser 5 oz/ 150 mL and The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA 3.3 oz/ 100 mL

The INKEY List Hyaluronic Acid Cleanser 5 oz/ 150 mL and The INKEY List Omega Water Cream Oil-Free Moisturizer + Niacinamide 1.7 oz/ 50 mL

Also want to suggest E.L.F. Pure Skin Line as it's made for Sensitive Skin, With Oat Milk, Niacinamide, Allantoin, Ceramides, Hyaluronic Acid and Glycolic Acid. The Niacinamide in it will also help control your oil. The line includes a Cleaner, Toner, and Moisturizer and they are all very affordable.

Re: Help! Sensitive, Combination/Oily Skincare Regimen!

I also have combination skin that’s more on the oily side. I’ve tried The Ordinary and Inkeylist products, they’re very affordable and works well especially with the oilyness but I have parts of my face here and there that’s more on the dry side so it’s a little tricky for me to try and test different stuffs that would suit my skin better. Right now what works for me are the following, I don’t get breakouts using these and it keeps my oilyness at bay without making my skin dry. It’s not a one size fits all when it comes to skincare so I encourage you to try things around and hopefully find something that works best for you! I use this cleanser day and night Tatcha Mini Deep Cleanse Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser 1.7 oz / 50 mL  and I only use this toner in the morning Tatcha The Texture Tonic AHA Liquid Exfoliating Treatment 5.07 oz/ 150 mL this is my favorite moisturizer and I’ve sticked to it ever since Tatcha The Water Cream Oil-Free Pore Minimizing Refillable Moisturizer and this sunscreen is one of what I use Tatcha The Silk Sunscreen Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA++++ with Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide 1.7 oz/ 50 mL cause I also use Kiehl’s and Shiseido from time to time. If Im applying makeup, I make sure to use face primer, I notice it keeps oilyness at bay for the entire day. At night I double cleanse with Garnier’s Micellar Water then The Ordinary’s squalene cleanser to remove makeup (If I don’t double cleanse it’s a sure recipe for pimple the next day lol). I use a different moisturizer and toner at night Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Retinol Alternative Firming Night Moisturizer 1.6 oz/ 50 mL  and from time to time I would also use Caudalie Purifying Clay Mask 2.5 oz/ 75 mL once or twice per week 🤗

Re: Help! Sensitive, Combination/Oily Skincare Regimen!

I have similar issues with my skin! for a very simple routine for sensitive skin i use a cerave sensitive skin cleanser and follow up with a moisturizer that is specifically for oily skin. that is a very basic routine but starting simple and working up to more products improved my skin a lot and helped with my product sensitivity
