Help! I’m looking old and dull!

Hi! I’m a 40 year old nurse that works the night shift. I’m dark haired, light eyed, and fair skin. I’m not a makeup person at all. My routine is a basic lotion, eyeliner and mascara. I don’t like the look or feel of foundation. I’m a very simple, on the go kind of person. Anyways, my skin is very dull, and I have horrible bags under my eyes. ( thank you night shifts). Is there a product, like a lotion/moisturizer that will make my skin look glowy/dewy.. without the foundation cover up look? Thank you!!

Re: Help! I’m looking old and dull!

Hi @danically,

I recommend trying the DRUNK ELEPHANT - A-Passioni™ Retinol Creamand the

OLEHENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Eye Crème.I have found the DRUNK ELEPHANT - A-Passioni™ Retinol Creamworks great to retexture the skin and bring a glow back. This eye cream helps with fine lines, dark circles, and dryness. I have found this instantly brightens my undereye. I hope this helps!

Best,
Rebecca

Skincare! I love AHA's and for dewy skin try Farmacy honeymoon glow and on top honey grail. Since you work night shift do this before you go to sleep. This should be your end of the day routine. I know this other product is pricey but I just started using beautybio's microneedling tool. I don't use it every day. More like once a week and I like how my skin looks after using it. After micro needling I use sunday riley luna oil (again I only use this once a week). For every day I use a hyaluronic serum (for hydration) and tatcha Dewy skin cream. I also heard that drunk elephants sukari babyfacial is amazing. I'm sure you can get a sample of all products before you commit. BTW I'm 35 year old mom of 2. My baby still nurses at night and I have yet to have 5+ hrs straight of sleep. I hardly wear makeup.

Re: Help! I’m looking old and dull!

That is almost exactly where I was last year. I would recommend a gentle exfoliator, such as Tatcha, Indeed, or Amorepacific rice enzyme powder, or an exfoliating acid. The Inkey list caffeine cream for eyes is good for puffiness.

The The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Serum for Oily Skin 1 oz/ 30 mL and THE ORDINARY - buffet are great for brightening.  Good luck! @danically

RE: Help! I’m looking old and dull!

I’d really recommend the skincare brand Glow Recipe! Two products in particular, the watermelon sleeping mask, and the pineapple C bright serum. If you wouldn’t mind sacrificing a little time in the morning/night I think these could really help, especially if you don’t like the feeling of a lot of makeup. I personally have not tried either of these but everyone who I’ve spoken to about Glow Recipe and these products have had great experiences. Best of luck!

@danically on days when I don’t want to wear a full foundation I like to use L’Oréal Visible Lift Luminous Tint in #803 Gold. I often use it in the place of a moisturizer under my makeup. But just by itself it gives your skin a polished looking glow. Also I like to dab a bit of Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream under my eyes first especially when I haven’t gotten enough sleep. It helps to depuff and has a gentle tingle that helps to wake up. There may be other more high end or clean products but this is what works for me and I thought I’d share. 😀

@danically

You can try doing a quickie facial massage when you're cleansing your skin to help improve circulation and drainage. There are videos on YouTube to show you how, it's very easy and you don't need to spend a lot of time doing it exactly the same way.

I'd also recommend adding a vitamin-C serum or adding a facial oil to your lotion like The Ordinary's Rosehip oil. These will help plump up the skin and restore its vitality. Your skin will see improvement and won't require more products on top.

If you have time, do consider 10-min facial masks that boost collagen production and nourish your skin. You can just quickly slap one on and then do a chore like answering emails or tidying up before rinsing off 🙂

Thank you!

Re: Help! I’m looking old and dull!

@danically   If you’re looking for an instant glow, adding a drop of liquid highlighter to the moisturizer you already use will fake looking lit from within.
When you say you have bags under your eyes do you mean darkness or puffiness?

RE: Re: Help! I’m looking old and dull!

Both! It’s horrible.. lol

Re: RE: Re: Help! I’m looking old and dull!

@danically    for puffiness, sleeping with your head propped up on more than one pillow will help.  Also, a facial roller will help with circulation and drainage.  caffeine (cold tea bags) on the undereye are both pleasant and effective.

OLEHENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Eye Crème is really nice and counteracts darkness under the eyes with its hint of yellow

BECCA - Under Eye Brightening Corrector  Is highly moisturizing and brightens up darker areas. It’s a HG product.
