HELP!!!!!

I need help. I have been wanting to start skincare for a while but I have no clue what I'm doing. I need help with brands, what to use, and everything else. I really need some help!!! I no literally no one that does skincare and I need a lot of help!

Re: HELP!!!!!

Hey! I totally get where you’re coming from—I was in the same boat not too long ago, and it felt super overwhelming at first. The good news is, starting skincare doesn’t have to be complicated. You just need to understand your skin and build from the basics.

Here’s a simple way to start:

1. Start with the basics:

  • Cleanser – gentle, non-stripping

  • Moisturizer – something that hydrates without feeling greasy

  • SPF – yes, even if you’re indoors sometimes. Super important for long-term skin health.

2. Know your skin type:
Are you oily, dry, combo, or sensitive? That’ll help guide your product choices.

3. Don’t go overboard.

You don’t need a 10-step routine. Even 2-3 good products can make a difference. Focus on consistency over quantity.

As for brands, I’ve had good luck starting with products that are more natural or minimal in ingredients—especially when your skin’s just getting used to a routine. One line I came across recently uses herbal, clean formulations and is super gentle. You can take a look here (not a promo—just something that’s worked well for my skin personally).

Also, don’t be afraid to patch test! Your skin will let you know what it loves and what it doesn’t.

Happy to answer any specific questions too—you're not alone in this! 💛

Re: HELP!!!!!

Starting skincare can be challenging and it is important to start by finding out your skin type. It’s important to know your skin type because it will lead you to buying the best products. I have combination skin. So I like to use a cleaner that will clean my pores thoroughly and a moisturizer that’s not too oily. It’s a trial and error process in my opinion but once your started you will become a pro

Re: HELP!!!!!

Honestly, if you have sensitive skin all you really need is

  • Cleanser- Cerave hydrating cleanser
  • Toner- Cerave hydrating toner, or the glow recipe toner
  • Add a skin treatment if you want to
  • Moisturizer-Laneige bank blue gel moisturizer or the Tatcha moisturizer
  • Sunscreen- Supergoop sunscreen

Other good brands are Bubble, Glow recipe, Tacha, La Roche-Posay, Aveeno, Clinique, and Cetaphil.

Re: HELP!!!!!

Ok thank you so much will definitely look into this

Re: HELP!!!!!

@CharlotteB123  I usually tell folks to start by answering these questions:

  1. What’s your skin type/behavior? Is it oily everywhere, dry everywhere, a combo (example: oily t-zone but dry everywhere else), or balanced (not too dry or oily anywhere)? Is your skin sensitive?

  2. What are your skincare goals or issues? What do you want products to do for your skin? What problem(s) are you trying to solve with skincare products?

  3. Do you already have a skincare routine? What is it? A good one can be as simple as cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen—especially if you happen to be a preteen or younger. Your answer(s) to question #2 will help determine if you need a longer/more complex routine than that.

  4. Do you have a budget/price cap?

Once you have that info, you can look for products that meet your specific needs—and they don’t have to be from a single brand. Since we don’t all have the same skin types/behaviors, issues, or budget, it’s best to make your particular skin the center of your routine instead of following random skincare trends. Also, your skin might not need things other people do. Toner is a good example: this isn’t a mandatory skincare step for everyone. Neither is ascorbic acid (a form of vitamin C), especially since some people’s skin is very sensitive to that ingredient. Focus on what your skin needs. 🙂

Re: HELP!!!!!

My skin is really sensitive so I try to be careful with it. I have been have some breakouts on my chin and forehead and I really want to get clear shiny skin. I do not already have a skincare routine which is probably really bad I really only wash my face with hand soap after my showers. And I honestly have no clue about a budget.

Re: HELP!!!!!

Good question! @CharlotteB123

It really depends on what your looking for your routine to do for you. What are your skincare goals?

Do you know your skin type? And what are you using right now?

I think some good advice for beginners is to do your research and go slow. Add one product at a time and don't overwhelm your skin. Getting into skincare is fun and exciting but there's no need to rush.

Re: HELP!!!!!

I have been trying to do a lot of research and I just need to know if there are like drug store products that would work or if I should break the bank to buy the high end ones. I have really sensitive skin but it is not sensitive on my nose for some reason. And I am not using anything right now which I have been told is super bad. I really just want to prevent big acne breakouts and to get clean glowy skin.
sorry I realize that this is all over the place but tell me if I need to explain more!

Re: HELP!!!!!

I think some of the less expensive stuff is phenomenal @CharlotteB123 I don't think you need to over spend to get great skin. The pricey stuff can be lovely but there are so many good budget friendly options, don't feel you need to shop out of your price range.

My skin type is dry, sensitive but maturing. I use

Toner:

LANEIGE Cream Skin Refillable Toner & Moisturizer with Ceramides and Peptides

Serum:

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum

Face oil:

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil 1 oz/ 30 mL

For my moisturizer I've tried loads and there's a few I could list but these are some I feel good recommending.

Night cream:

Mario Badescu Seaweed Night Cream 1 oz / 28 g ( has a weird smell ngl, but it leaves me with great skin 🤗)

Day cream:

Glow Recipe Mini Plum Plump Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer

But there's so many out there, I suggest taking at look at The Ordinary and The Inkey List if you looking for not too pricey. 👌

And remember to go slow when you are adding new skin care, and be patient. It can take weeks to start to see the results from something new.

What are you looking/hoping to try first?

Re: HELP!!!!!

@CharlotteB123 @Sephora employee here

Do you know what your skin type is? If not a beauty advisor in store can do a skin scan and help you pick out products for your skin type.

Re: HELP!!!!!

I have sensitive skin but idk I guess kind of sensitive and kind of normal I guess I do t really know

Re: HELP!!!!!

@CharlotteB123 @If you have sensitive skin it’s best to go into your local store and get some samples to test out before buying. That way you can see how your skin reacts to them.
