Has anyone seen the adds on instagram for the new Foreo UFO? They invite you to check out their kick starter to purchase a Foreo UFO at 50% off. I thought it was a scam but I checked out the foreo web page and they have a link to their kick starter over there, too. I am baffled that Foreo is doing a kickstarter though. It seems unprofessional for a company that already has major distribution and what I assume is the financial backing that goes with that.
Aside from the kick starter aspect, does anyone have any thoughts on the efficacy of this widget?
I ordered my UFO through the Kickstarter (which I agree was likely a publicity stunt). It arrived two days ago, and I absolutely love it. My skin feels better after 90 seconds with their mask than 30 minutes under a regular one. I'm going to try it tonight with one of my regular sheet masks cut down to size - in hopes that I can use up my collection rather than buying tons of theirs right now (at $10/7 masks it isn't terrible, but it isn't cheap either if you use them frequently).
So... it worked.
I took a Too Cool For School Egg Cream Mask (Firming) from my stash. I cut one cheek off, which is about the right size. I think I will get 3 uses out of each normal sheek mask (cheek, cheek, forehead). I trimmed off the edges to make a vague circle, and clipped it in. I used the Night mask setting, figuring it was night time, so why not. It runs through its pre-programmed night mask plan of hot, vibration, cold with the different light colors. My face felt quite nice afterwards. I definitely liked the results from their mask better than this particular one, but that may have nothing to do with the device. It's hard to say.
Oh I would be very interested to know how this works with other brands masks @joie07!! (There is a masking thread and I imagine a lot of the ladies there, myself included would love to hear on this new masking technology!!) I would definitely get one if the results worked across masks and not limited to their masks. Thanks!!
Oooh I was just thinking about these the other day... I didn't end up ordering one but I'm super interested to hear how they work out! I'll be curious whether they'll be ok with other brands of masks... thanks for the update @joie07!
The Kickstarter approach is probably a publicity stunt and part of their marketing strategy to build hype. If they truly needed financial support to develop/launch this product, they’d need to raise a lot more than $20K (that’s a drop in the bucket for a company like them) and it wouldn’t be ready to ship in 3 months. The device is already designed, tested, and being manufactured. It’s nothing like a real Kickstarter campaign where companies are starting from concept. I agree at least you know it’s not likely they take your money and run away as it often happens with Kickstarters.
The device itself sounds interesting. I don’t want to have to buy their masks to use it though. It’s unclear whether you can use it on its own or other products from the videos (you could probably DIY something in place of their masks but hard to say without a device in hand). I question whether 90 secs of treatment is long enough to have an impact.
Personally, I’m holding off on ordering. I don’t want to spend that much without any real reviews. I’m sure there will be lots more skincare tech this year from other companies. Neutrogena previewed their own skin analysis device recently.
@bonafide11 I'm very tempted, but I also don't want to be stuck having to use Foreo's masks. I have maybe ONE sheet mask that I consistently buy (Dr. Jart+'s Ceramidin sheet mask), all my other masks are apply and leave on masks which wouldn't really work with this.
I never buy beauty tool companies' skincare products because I don't find the formulations spectacular. I also don't mind sitting around waiting for 15-30 minutes, usually I take this time to scroll through my phone or watch TV, it's not like I can't spare that time. Day masks are probably never going to be used... that's just an extra step in my routine that I don't need. I actually feel that my skin usually looks pretty good first thing in the morning after I cleanse.
I wish you could have multiple settings like mask (the regular setting where it cycles), and just heat or cold. I tend to use ice or a warm wash cloth to treat papule-type breakouts, this tool would've been a game changer for me if I didn't have to worry about ice melting everywhere, or having to dip my washcloth in hot water every few seconds.
*checks to see when the KS ends*

@darlyndarI've been wanting an iris, too. I'm just leery of the kickstarter approach. I would be more inclined to make a purchase if it was sold on the foreo.com website. If it's getting coverage in mainstream beauty press I might do it. I put it out here because I am/was on the fence on whether this is some kind of scam or not. 50% off foreo products is a good deal, but having someone take my money over kick starter and not getting anything in return is a bad deal!
@darlyndar Mini or full-size? I'm irrationally interested because they're calling it a UFO. hahaha
I went full size on the UFO.....the Mini does not have the cooling function. Figured I’d go all in....lol
Yes, releasing it during CES makes it seem legit. I just can't help but think if you buy the item on kickstarter they could burn you. Maybe it is just a publicity stunt. I just think about the actual TOS and how you'd have no recourse if they decided not to ship you the product.
True, but people would probably burn them down with bad reviews everywhere else. Hopefully not! I have one of the toothbrushes and I really like it... I need them to not be total jerks 😅
I just think they're taking a very deliberate run at courting tech-money consumers (they kind of have to if they want to really do sales numbers, with that price point on a relatively new type of device) and the KS campaign is a convenient hype machine to snag a wider audience than the usual channels.
@itscarin I agree with you about the Kickstarter thing... seems a little odd.
