Eye Cream

I'm trying to up my skincare game and would like to find an eye cream. When I had a perk facial the SA put the Ole Henriksen banana bright eye cream on me and I've heard good things, so I got a sample. I love the color correction and brightening. But it seems marketed towards brightening and not toward fighting fine lines. Does that product help fine lines as well?

If I need something else, I'm wondering if I should buy a 2nd eye cream for in the evening and use both. Or is there a better product out there that does both? I'd rather use only one as eye creams are expensive. Or should I be targeting the fine lines with a serum?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I always get good advice on BIC and i know there are many here who know a LOT about skincare. Thanks in advance guys!

Re: Eye Cream

Thanks @WinglessOne

Re: Eye Cream

Thanks for all the detail @WinglessOne  I researched ingredients more on the OH, and it does have some anti-aging properties, so I'm going to give it a shot.  I may add an eye serums as well.  The one you suggested looks pretty good.  And I certainly don't remember seeing deep wrinkles.  I do think the serum you recommended looks great, so I may try that as well.

Re: Eye Cream

@sprocketta  I hope the OH cream works for you! The good thing about eye creams: a jar/bottle should last a long time, depending on how much product you use daily. That’s how I justify the expense, anyway.

And thanks for the compliment, you’re too kind. 🙂 Funny: for all the money and stress we spend on under-eye lines, not many people really notice them on us in the first place. Not that anyone’s beauty/skincare routine should be based primarily on pleasing other people (aside from work-related requirements), but still.

Re: Eye Cream

It really is true @WinglessOne I don't actually have undereye lines that I can see, but I want to address it before it becomes an issue, as it will as I age.  I really want that eye serum you recommended, but my wallet is grumpy at the thought of buying both the eye cream and the serum.  We'll see how I do with the cream.

Re: Eye Cream

@sprocketta  At some point, after you’ve used the OH cream for a while, you could just get a sample of the DDG serum to try. A tiny in-store sample should last a week, if it’s the same amount as the eye cream samples I’ve gotten at Sephora. You can stretch a sample to 2 weeks if you use it only under one eye, as a “with vs. without” comparison test. 🙂

Re: Eye Cream

@WinglessOne  The OH is a no go. Glad I got a sample. It's giving me milia. Back to the drawing table. I'll get a sample of the DE I guess, though the price tag is waving frantically in my face.

Re: Eye Cream

Oh no @sprocketta  😞 Milia are usually a sign that your skin needs exfoliation. Sounds like you had some other kind of reaction to something in the OH cream. Is this the first skincare product you’ve used that contains vitamin C? Your skin might be reacting to that ingredient. You’ll know if you try DE C-Tango and have a similar reaction.  DE Shaba has no vitamin C, so that one might end up working better for you.

Re: Eye Cream

@WinglessOne  I read reviews and some people mentioned this but one said it was because she was applying too much. I'm going to leave it be for a couple days and debate it. I've never tried vitamin c in skincare. Is it the kind of thing that your skin gets used to? Just not sure if I need to take it slow and use less or if I simply can't handle it. I'm glad you mentioned the vitamin c because I hadn't thought of it. I'm so lost on skincare.

Re: Eye Cream

@sprocketta  don't worry, you will get hang of it. Vit C does take some getting used to (for some people). I used to mix the DE C-Firm with moisturizer in the beginning because it would tingle otherwise.

See how it goes after skipping eye cream for couple of days.

Re: Eye Cream

Okay @naturalooks15  That's good to know.

Re: Eye Cream

@sprocketta  @naturalooks15  I agree with reintroducing it slowly. You might also want to patch test it on your jawline, neck, or wrist (I usually patch test on my jaw, neck, or chest) before trying it under your eye again.

I looked up the Banana Bright ingredients to see which form of vitamin C it contains. It’s tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, which is milder on skin than L-ascorbic acid. A friend of mine can’t use any skincare containing L-ascorbic acid as its vitamin C ingredient, but she can use a milder form if she slowly introduces it to her skin. Then again, some people—especially folks with sensitive skin—can’t use any form of vitamin C in skincare without having a bad reaction. It’s too irritating and their skin never gets used to it.

Patch test for a few days, then try a small amount of the OH cream under your eyes again. If irritation continues, I’d stop using that cream and look for one that doesn’t contain vitamin C. I might also take that cream to a doctor for an allergy test, to help identify what thing(s) my skin doesn’t like.

Re: Eye Cream

@sprocketta

I use BELIF - Moisturizing Eye Bombevery morning before my makeup application and find it helps with fine lines and smoothing out the undereye.
