Correct serum to use after chemical exfoliant toner?

What type of serum do you use after use a PHA + BHA toner? Want to make sure I am doing the proper mix and order.

@Anonymous depending on the strength of the exfoliant AND just generally how your skin feels you may want to opt for something more hydrating to compensate for the potential drying effect of an AHA/BHA.  Not everyone experiences this; sometimes it just takes a little trial and error to see what works for you :).

Hi there!

I think the most important thing to use after chemical exfoliants is sunscreen. Chemical exfoliating makes your skin very sensitive so it is important protect it for at least a week afterwards.

Most serums would be fine, @Anonymous. The only ones you'd want to be careful of might be other exfoliating/active serums (so ones that contain AHAs, BHAs, PHAs, retinols, ascorbic acid, etc) but even then it's highly dependent on your skin's tolerance and the formulation of the products. Some people are able to layer various combinations of those in a single routine.

@Anonymous  That depends on your skin's needs. I mean, you can use nearly any serum after an exfoliant, if your skin will tolerate the layering. Are there serums in your current routine that you're trying to use after the exfoliating toner?

Re: Correct serum to use after chemical exfoliant toner?

I am looking to switch up my skincare regimen so I want to make sure I am doing the right mix. I've seen so many articles mention to be very particular what serum to use after using a PHA + BHA toner in order to not mess up my skin. A little bit confused yet curious.

Hey @Anonymous I  use Lotion P50 (not available at Sephora) when I chemical exfoliate. Immediately after, I follow it up with either a CoQ10 spray or the Caudaulie grape water to put some hydration and moisture back in to my skin. Once that’s dry, I go in with my Vitamin C by Drunk Elephant. I haven’t had any reactions or issues with these steps but I think my skin is used to it. Everyone’s skin responds differently. When my Vitamin c serum is absorbed then I go in with some hyaluronic acid and a moisturizer.
