Acne Scars?

Anyone have any skin care recommendations for acne scars and breakouts? I have a fairly decent skin care routine but I wanna amp it up, I just don’t know what to use. I’m comfortable using serums, creams, and etc. so give it your all! Cheers 💕

Retinol from The Ordinary is very good.

Re: Acne Scars?

Try All Purpose Hydroquinone Cream. It's white and it comes in a jar that lasts for a long time. Mine is still almost full and I've been using it for over a month daily. I use it to erase my age spots, but a lot of people use it to remove their acne scars. It really works. It's for different types of hyperpigmentation. Ask your dermeatologist first before using APH. Here's a link just in case you haven't heard of it yet:

Good luck!

Re: Acne Scars?

I will really recommend two things

1. A dermaroller. It's a beauty tool that contains tiny needles that cause little wholes in your skin (sounds super scary I know but trust me). Your skin will then immediately try to repair itself, leading to an increase of collagen production - speeding up the process of replacing old skin with new skin. Dermatologists swear by it and it's found at most beauty salons, but you can also use it at home these days. Don't think they sell them at sephora tho 😕 but I'm not sure

2. Products containing high levels of retinol, vitamin c, niacinamide OR AHA (don't use these together) as these ingredients are great for brightening and exfoliating the skin

Re: Acne Scars?

Hello!

My tips:

  • discard anything with silicones or silicone varients
  • use an acid treatment like Cane + Austin's Miracle pads once/twice a week
  • Microdermabrasion 1 or 2x per week - Dr Brandt and Lancer both have great ones
  • use face oils.

My current routine (see if anything speaks to you)

Morning:

  • I use a mild glycerin based soap, I wash for a good 1-2 minutes with the creamy lather.
  • Follow with a mild toner (witch hazel)
  • Essence - Origin's Essence Lotion (the pink bottle) (If you want, try the Tatcha Skin Plumping essence, this helps plump your skin and make your scars less noticeable)
  • Then add any light acne treatments with salicylic acid
    • Let that sit, and if you really need to smooth out the acne scars, I suggest a Hyulranic acid treatment, this plumps the skin.
  • Moisturize - Kiehl's deep moisturizing balm (even for oily skin this is good, it contains shea butter and lavender oil)
  • Top with an oil- kiehls daily renewal, or Laura Mercier Rose oil

Night:

  • Acid face wash- peter thomas roth has a few good ones, I recommend the Glycolic acid 3 times a week, and the salicylic acid 4 times a week.
  • Once or twice a week, I use my Microdermabrasion, currently I am using Dr. Brandt's pore refining
    • I immediately follow with the Tatcha Rice Enzyme to calm my skin. I lather it up, then let it sit for a minute, then rinse
  • Follow with toner (mild on my treatment days with my micro, but I suggest the acid toner from The ordinary)
  • Then Essence
  • then a very light amount of acne treatment if needed
  • Then moisturize
  • then Oil. On days where I use more treatment, I use more oil.

For acne scars, the best thing I suggest is the microdermabrasion if you are happy with your current routine.

If you want to heal the discoloration, try the Murad Dark spot treatment. I swear by it. Add that to the acne treatment after your essence step.

Yes! The first time I used Babyfacial, some minimal scarring I had from acne was practically gone. I love the peel pads from Dr. Gross and the C+Collagen too. Miracle workers 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

Re: Acne Scars?

A lot of people have recommended acids so I'll just throw one more into the ring for your consideration.  Toning with Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 totally transformed my skin, got my oil under control, reduced break outs, and helps heal them a lot faster (and I think prevent scarring, too!).  It's amazing stuff and I don't go without it anymore.

Another product that might be good is a retinol, which helps both with preventing acne and fine lines/wrinkles.  There are tons of retinols out there.  My favorite right now is Shani Darden Retinol Reform, which is super effective.  Just make sure that when you are using it, you only use it at night and you always wear SPF during the day because retinols make your skin more sensitive to the sun.

Re: Acne Scars?

For acne scars, products with AHAs or BHAs will be helpful. I really like Drunk Elephant's Sukari Babyfacial because it is very powerful and includes both. As a more general tip, be sure to use sunscreen every day because sun exposure can darken any scarring, especially when you're also using exfoliating acids like AHAs and BHAs. Retinoids are also super great for acne and scarring but they're a little more extreme and can cause some dryness, but if nothing else is working I would definitely consider it.

Thank you! That helps a lot!

Either glow girl by Ren or Power Couple duo by Sunday Riley

RE: Acne Scars?

I’ll look into it! Thank you 😊

RE: Acne Scars?

This is literally one of my favorite treatments for day! Have you tried the UFO Oil from Sunday Riley?! This helps with breakouts and oil! Seriously one of the best!

RE: Acne Scars?

Oooh sounds interesting, thank you 😊I have dry skin though so would it dry me up too much if it targets oil too?

RE: Acne Scars?

Good Genes All in One Lactic Acid treatment! It’s super pricey but if you can afford it I’d 100% recommend it. It’s the one product that visibly evened out my skin tone. I have acne scarring too and it really helped while I was using it!

I’ll look into it, thanks!
