Are Play! Boxes getting worse and worse?

What’s with the boxes as of late? I just got this months box and there’s maybe one product I’d even consider trying, which is the BB cream from Dr. Jart. Otherwise I got some hideous purple lip stain, which quite frankly looks like it came from a toddlers toy makeup kit, two hair products from brands I’ve never heard of, and Sephora eyeliner, which honestly has no pigmentation. When I first joined the subscription, they were sending out amazing brands like Smashbox, Olehenricksen, Benefit, Becca and much more. Now it’s several of their in house products and unknown brands. I’m really hoping it gets back to how it was, otherwise I’m certain they’ll be losing a significant amount of subscribers.

They are. I'm so tired of getting Sephora brand lip sticks, glosses, and eyeliner. I love the box because I sometimes discover my new favourite products...but I like discovering LUXURY products that I normally wouldn't think to buy. A sample of a $12 lipsticks isn't worth it to me. A sample of a $75 serum though...that's how I ended up addicted to Sunday Riley's Good Genes, and Kate Somerville's Retinol+ eye cream! Both of which are expensive! I got small samples and became hooked!

I know! Isn’t the point of the box for people to experience brands they may not shop for? To generate sales? You would think they would stop skimping for cheap products and actually send out things that will generate revenue and business for them. Not only that, but I want to try these brands! I would gladly try a sample from the box then purchase the full size. So frustrating for all of us!!

I agree about the lower end brands.  Anything Sephora or makeup forever immediately goes into a box for my sister.  I like the idea, but this now seems more like giving away whatever free samples they have vs letting us try new and innovative products.

I’m so glad I found this thread. I really thought I was the only one disappointed in these boxes. When I first joined I thought they were fantastic. My last one (March) was the worst. And to top it off, 2 of my samples, were damaged—like they had been stepped on and still put in the box. The Smashbox lip pencil and Dr Jart samples were totally unusable. When I notified Sephora, I immediately got a response that they were sending me a new box. Yay!! Well it was short-lived. The next day, I got a notification that it was canceled. This is the last month. If my box isn’t at least decent, I’m gone. I’ve been looking at the Allure box and it looks so much better. It’s $15 a month but looks totally worth it. The ball is in your court, Sephora...

OH MY GOD THIS HAPPENED TO ME TOO!!! I was so excited to find out my feb box was going to be reshipped because over half of it was damaged but then got an email saying it was cancelled due to availability. So frustrating!!

I get allure  and ipsy also literally one thing from allure o have enjoyed and that a highlighter ipsy is so much better and you get items catered to your preferences.

I'm starting to notice a trend of at least 2 products are from Rewards Bazaar, which were obviously dud's!

yesssss I agree whole heartedly the size and quality of the products are dwindling fast if they don't step it up they will lose a lot of customers ...... I for one would like my perfume samples back!!!

I can do without the perfume samples, but  I have similar feelings about the two most recent boxes. Two of the five products from the March box were completely incompatible for me. This would be obvious if my profile had been checked.

I tried canceling my box in December. They said I had to wait until my year was up which was February.   It’s still coming out of my account.  If the boxes do not improve I’m calling again.  The lip colors that they send are horrible and I’m sick of the oils.

This is my first box from Sephora and I’m so underwhelmed by it. The products are literally still in the bag on my bedroom floor. The only product I have interest in is the Bobbi Brown illuminating moisture balm. I had to give the IGK away because it contained coconut oil and I’m allergic to it 🙃. Hopefully April’s box isn’t trash 🙂🙂🙂

i got that supergoop spray too and it's absolutely awful. smelled like straight up alcohol.

This was also my exact box. The hair products were useless to me, having very curly hair. Sulfates and silicones are so bad for curly hair.

this was my exact first box too and I only like the Bobbi Brown cream and stila liner the rest was not my thing. If this months is bad too I'm switching to boxycharm.
