Are Play! Boxes getting worse and worse?

What’s with the boxes as of late? I just got this months box and there’s maybe one product I’d even consider trying, which is the BB cream from Dr. Jart. Otherwise I got some hideous purple lip stain, which quite frankly looks like it came from a toddlers toy makeup kit, two hair products from brands I’ve never heard of, and Sephora eyeliner, which honestly has no pigmentation. When I first joined the subscription, they were sending out amazing brands like Smashbox, Olehenricksen, Benefit, Becca and much more. Now it’s several of their in house products and unknown brands. I’m really hoping it gets back to how it was, otherwise I’m certain they’ll be losing a significant amount of subscribers.

Ive been subscribed since the Play boxes started. I thought this was very underwhelming too. It’s like we got the leftovers from previous boxes and point perks that didn’t get used up. Honestly though, I’ve gotten some amazing boxes and some like this that kind of sucked. Hang on a little while longer and hopefully you will get a magical box next month. Idk if it’s just me, but I’ve also noticed the more comments people seem to leave the more Sephora has taken notice and tried to make some corrections. Frankly though, this box really was the leftovers🙄 it’s all trial and error

It's pretty much lost it's sparkle for me this will be 8 months, think seriously about cancelling and subscribing to fair trade bracelet instead, I have enough lip gloss and black eye liner to last me a life time..

The only thing I even liked from my box was the IGK Mistress Hydating Hair Balm. I got a medium color in the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye And Dr Jart CC Cream .... I’m pale, very pale and that purple lip thing was god awful! I’m giving them one more shot then I’m just going to stick to my Ipsy like I have for the past 3+ years.

I received the same....so dark for my skin,straight to trash can such a waste. I was excited to try new  IT brand stuff too.

What did you get? I feel like each month it’s a hit or miss. My February box was complete trash!!

I posted my customer feedback back in Feb on that string, received my March box, and came here to the group today to post on the March string - Not some "Bye Felicia"-type threat that "I'm considering" cancelling, but that in Feb I said...One last time for
March. Received March and the box version that came to me I believe it the worst of the bunch. Saw your string and thought - this is the perfect place to concur! It's over. I've cancelled - Life Is Too Short and there are way too many other fish in the sea!

Agreed!! I subscribed because Play was a great box with great samples but the last few boxes are just random stuff and doesn’t seem to go with my profile, or age! I will try one more month than I’m out. I have two other boxes I’m very happy with and one fits profile perfect and gives you choices!

Same here! I have curly hair and NEVER get any hair SAMPLE I can use! Plus I'm super pale and all the foundation/concealer samples are usually light which is too dark. And HOW many berry and red lipsticks do we need?!

I officially cancelled. I’m going to try a different beauty box now. Ifeel like they need to listen to more customer concerns regarding what’s in a box like Ipsy. I already have Birchbox and Ipsy. I’m havingconflicting feelings about Birchbox too, but it’s paid for theyear. Lol. Edit: I had also already bought the B.B. cream (full size) inthe past after receiving a sample... in the past. So I was pretty ticked getting it in this box. The only useful thing was the IT concealer. Everything else was irrelevant, including the broken cover fx which they just credited me 250 points for...

I was kind of disappointed when I got my box, Im more into the make up than the skin care and all I really got was the eyeliner. (I guess the setting spray counts but like, a new lip thing would of been cooler?) but anyways, I won’t cancel, just hope the boxes get some gems. Plus, do we get any Too Face or KVD samples? Or even ABH? I’ve only had 2 boxes so far. I’m just curious. Those are the brands I love.

You’ll probably never see any of those luxury brands honestly. They used to have them forever ago, but now it’s just newer brands with small sample sizes 😩

Sorry to disappoint but you will receive hair and skin care items not just makeup. I think every subscription box has both except Boxycharm you might be more interested in that one but its $21 cause it's 5 full size items.

Yes, the boxes have been getting worse. I've been a Play! subscriber for almost 2 years and the boxes used to contain bigger and better items. I'm willing to give Sephora brand items a try, but they're appearing way too frequently. The samples are supposed to be "deluxe" and the tiny size of some of them would be laughable if we weren't all paying for this. (Look at the size of the Bobbi Brown sample in my box this month: so-o-o-o tiny and the only promising item in my box amongst 4 duplicates and yet another black eyeliner.) Duplicates upon duplicates, and another poster in this group described is as unwanted 100 point rewards getting dumped into the boxes. I feel I've waited long enough for improvements to be made and I think this month has finally put the nail in the proverbial coffin. I can spend $120 so many other places that will actually be satisfying. Sad, because I really was excited about a Sephora subscription box; they just can't seem to maintain the quality.

I can confirm the samples are getting smaller, I got a sample of the drybar dry shampoo a year ago that was 22 grams/ .8 oz, and another sample of the exact same thing this month (which if I still have that little sample from so long ago...) but this one is only 10 g/ .35 oz. Less than half the amount of a previously already tiny sample!

I'm going to give BoxyCharm a try. I'm waiting on my first box this month. I also signed up for Play! for the first time this month (still waiting for my first bag) but after reading these posts I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it. I have been an ipsy & birchbox subscriber now for 2 yrs and both are getting much better.

They take their money out like clockwork and usually the first 3 or 4 days of month and then , who knows when you receive your box ,anywhere from the 11th to the last day of the month,, I don't care for that. April is my last box and they've taken their money already.. few days I'll cancel subscribe to Fair Trade Bracelets, I love them
