Serum for treating hyper pigmentation

I need a serum to treat pigmentation/melsama but   My skin is super oily. I have tried murad and caudile. But they both made my skin super shiny and i broke out really bad. Please help me find a serum

Re: Serum for treating hyper pigmentation

one thing to keep in mind that pigmentation caused by acne leaving a mark is different than melasma that is hormonal. Melasma will come back or get worse if you get a lot of sun exposure so may want to consider adding a sunscreen in addition to a serum to help fade the pigmentation.

Re: Serum for treating hyper pigmentation

I love Dr. Dennis Gross Retinol & Ferulic. It doesn't smell great but it worked for me. Don't forget to wear sunscreen EVERY DAY if you're using a brightening product.

Re: Serum for treating hyper pigmentation

hi @Caramel66, what serums specifically did you use by murad and caudalie ? it'll be worth examining them to figure out why you broke out before going on and recommending something that may do the same...

Re: Serum for treating hyper pigmentation

Hi @jemly i used Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum and caudaile vinoperfect radiance serum. Caudaile broke me out and made my skin very oily. Murad just made it very oily

Re: Serum for treating hyper pigmentation

ok and one more question ! what is the rest of your daily routine ?

Re: Serum for treating hyper pigmentation

I use tatcha enzyme powder with clarisonic in the morning. Then use the clinique foam cleanser or boscia the black one. Lastly clinique gel moisturizer or sheisdo mattifying

Re: Serum for treating hyper pigmentation

alright, thanks for the info ! i want to make sure whatever i suggest / you end up trying has the best chance of working for you--so i hope i'm not being too presumptuous here, but i'd like to make some recommendations to tweaking your routine. it should really help with the oiliness you're experiencing too.

if you're using the tatcha enzyme powder (already an exfoliant) with a clarisonic (also an exfoliant) your skin is likely screaming for a break. particularly if being used every day. then, i'm not sure if you're saying you go in with the other cleansers after the clarisonic, or if that's what you use at night, but either way, using a foaming cleanser in addition to the regular clarisonic/powder use is going to overstrip your skin further--leaving your skin's pH balance over alkalized and dehydrated, both of which are conditions that can lead to breakouts and over production of oil (to compensate). by using a mattifying moisturizer on top of that, you skin is likely not getting the nourishment and hydration it needs.

i know some people are very dedicated to their clarisonics--i personally do not like them as they are so easy to over use. so this is what i recommend ! cut back the usage drastically--once or twice a week. but never use it with the enzyme powder. use them interchangeably (select a 'physical exfoliation day' and chose one or the other. use a gentle cream cleanser with the clarisonic if you want to still use the tool.

i prefer chemical exfoliants over physical ones--they help maintain optimal skin pH levels--and help with brightening pigmentation as they promote cell turnover (see, now i've made this relevant to your initial question !). there are plenty of gentle ones you can use daily on the market--my personal favorite is the FIRST AID BEAUTY facial radiance pads. they contain both glycolic acid and lactic acid. use a pad at night after cleansing (let me know if you'd like some cleanser recommendations). but never use on the same day you're exfoliating with the powder/clarisonic. this is going to help the pigmentation treatment absorb better.

i recommend a vit c treatment. my favorite on the market right now is the CLINIQUE fresh pressed 7-day system. this stuff is potent and active vit c (notoriously great for brightening and for being unstable if exposed to light / the elements depending on the formula and method of use). it's a 7 day system that you can use for a week at a time (with breaks in between), or every-other-day for a 2 week treatment. and then give your skin a break and do another treatment as needed. these vit-c capsules can be mixed into a cleanser or mixed into your moisturizer as a 'booster', which i think would work best for your needs.

be aware that vit c *can* cause an initial breakout of sorts. that breakout really should only consist of a few whiteheads--nothing red, angry, inflamed. if your skin does react angrily, then perhaps we'll need to find a new brightening method other than vit c. but overall, the combination of the gentle acid exfoliation with the vit c should really help with pigmentation. and remember, be patient. nothing is going to be an overnight fix !
