Sorry for the confusion @angelKiss24 - this particular collection doesn’t launch until April

hope you have a great trip though!

Re: MISCELLANEOUS JAPANESE BEAUTY BRANDS THREAD | NEWS & DISCUSSION

I’m heading to Tokyo at the end of March and wanted some recommendations on Japanese beauty products at the mid-high/luxury end. There’s a lot of reviews out there for drugstore beauty items but not a lot that I could find for higher end brands (in English). I know that Addiction is famous for eyeshadows but what else? What about Three or RMK? Is Lunasol a nice brand?

Also, if anyone has any recommendations on western brands that have Asia exclusives worth nothing, that would be great (but maybe I should have a separate post for that?)

@nche, I'm heading there tomorrow and I'm looking forward...

@nche, I'm heading there tomorrow and I'm looking forward to add to my Addiction and Suqqu collections!

Re: @nche, I'm heading there tomorrow and I'm looking forward...

@angelKiss24 Please share what you get! What have you enjoyed most from addiction and suqqu?

and have a great trip!!!

Re: MISCELLANEOUS JAPANESE BEAUTY BRANDS THREAD | NEWS & DISCUSSION

@nche how exciting!

Addiction is definitely well known for their eyeshadows but also their blush range; particularly the Cheek Polish. I prefer their powder blush to the Cheek Polish (because I'm oily) but it was a really novel idea when they came out years ago because it has a nail polish applicator bottle.

Three makes an amazing blush formula but is really well known for their liquid/cream products (eyeshadow, cheek and lip jams). Most of their colour range is very sheer and translucent; they strive towards very natural looking makeup.

Celvoke is an up and coming 'natural' (I believe this is their way of saying organic) brand that makes a really cool multi-use cream product called Infinitely Color. I've tried their eyeshadows as well and they're good but compared to all the other brands I've mentioned, I wouldn't necessarily waste the money on them.

I've never tried Lunasol so I don't have any feedback on that. RMK is well known for their colourful range; in the past they've made some really unique dual ended mascara products with fun colour combos (brown/fuchsia, yellow/green etc). I find most of their powder products (blushes, eyeshadows, etc) to be very dusty and powdery, so they haven't really been for me but I do pick up their mascaras when they come out with new combos.

Also, there's Suqqu, of course. I would highly recommend their Pure Colour Blush compacts.  They also make beautiful eyeshadow but most fans (myself included) will tell you their newer Designing Colour Eyes formula is not nearly as lovely as the one they discontinued previously because the newer ones aren't as complex and most of the new palettes are all shimmer/satin finishes.

There's also Flarosso which is a fairly new brand; they make a highlighter called the Luci highlighter that is pretty spectacular and their blushes are pretty good too, though the shade range is limited. I think just about everything in their face range is baked gelee formula. They're also associated with Fuji (film) and claim to make products that are geared to photographing well.

ETA: Oh, and duh! Laduree if you're into that sort of thing. They have the blushes with the loose flower petals, and pressed cameo compacts and they've always got some kind of limited edition thing on the go. Personally I find most of their packaging a bit too over the top for my taste, but it is very popular.

As to Asia exclusives - the only one that comes to mind is Dior, but I'm sure there's probably others. Shu Uemura probably has some, although I'm not aware of any currently.

Hope that helps! Please make sure to come back and share what you end up with!!

Re: MISCELLANEOUS JAPANESE BEAUTY BRANDS THREAD | NEWS & DISCUSSION

@Mochapj thank you!!! This is so very helpful to narrow down what I want. I’m going to go look up all these products.

I forgot Suqqu made cosmetics. I solely associate them with brushes and that eyebrow pen. Thanks Lisa Eldridge. Lol

Laduree is not my thing either. I’m more attracted to a Japanese zen design aesthetic.

Re: RE: MISCELLANEOUS JAPANESE BEAUTY BRANDS THREAD | NEWS & DISCUSSION

Well, now I regret not picking the Addiction eyeshadows when I went to Japan recently.  I was trying to budget and restrain myself.  Seeing these swatches again, I suddenly have the urge to need them in my life.  LOL!

Re: RE: MISCELLANEOUS JAPANESE BEAUTY BRANDS THREAD | NEWS & DISCUSSION

I can’t say that I have seen palettes with a mix of colors like these, @Mochapj. Each is way out of my comfort zone when I see them in the actual palette, but the swatches look so wearable. I am wondering if it because they are so sheer that they wear this way.

Re: RE: MISCELLANEOUS JAPANESE BEAUTY BRANDS THREAD | NEWS & DISCUSSION

@eshoe one of the common themes in Japanese cosmetics is a love of colour, which is actually why I love buying their cosmetics so much. Even the ones easily  available in North America (Shu Uemura, Shiseido, Surratt) exemplify that.

most Japanese brands don’t have the level of pigmentation we’re used to by western standards; as you said that will make them more wearable. If you’ve ever seen or tried a Surratt eyeshadow or blush, the texture and pigmentation is a fairly accurate representation of a lot of the brands I’ve mentioned above.

personally I’m a fan of how much easier it is to find good greens, oranges, reds and yellows in their market, colours that are often  overlooked here.

Re: RE: MISCELLANEOUS JAPANESE BEAUTY BRANDS THREAD | NEWS & DISCUSSION

I have not tried any of the Surratt Beauty products, @Mochapj. Seems to me I saw talc as the 1st ingredient and I *try* to stay away from that as much as possible. But the colors are so beautiful! And the palettes you posted here are just gorgeous! I love to just look at them, have never seen them before so 🙏🏻 thank you!

Re: MISCELLANEOUS JAPANESE BEAUTY BRANDS THREAD | NEWS & DISCUSSION

@Mochapj Thank you for starting this thread ! It’s great to know that there are Japanese brands different than the commonly known brands such as Shiseido and Tatcha ! Very interesting!
