So I totally caved and picked up a couple lipsticks! Oppsie

I bought Satin lipstick in 402  Very V and a refill in matte 508 - Futurism

Love them. Truly beautiful for a collector!

@ChristalM  Thanks for confirming (inTHE PAT McGRATH THREAD) these lipstick and balm refills won’t work without a case. I’ve also seen someone else show that balm refills cannot be used with a lipstick case or vice versa. The shades you picked are lovely though! In fact, Very V is one of the shades I’d considered buying if the refills didn’t require a case. If you give one or both a wear test (assuming you’re not hands-off collecting them), please let us know how they perform. 

There are several YouTube “reviews”  by people who don’t actually have any of this makeup in their hands. I understand all those reactions; I reacted similarly here on BIC. (I still can’t get over Hermes being the better bargain. 😂) But that flood of videos is unhelpful to folks like me who actually wanna see how LV’s products perform, and how they compare to Pat McGrath Labs and/or luxury brands like Chanel, Hermes, Dior, D&G, etc. I’ve yet to see anyone do a Pat McGrath comparison in a video. But I did find one video by someone who bought a lipstick, a balm, and a quad (the purple one). That was kinda helpful. Now that I’m searching YT again, I see a couple more reviews; good to see actual hands-on reviews trickling in. 

I also found a video by a former LV employee (Maison Malli) explaining the possible mindset behind the pricing and availability. Sounds like she doesn’t think this makeup line will meet LV’s goals in the long run. After hearing her talk through those goals, I agree with her, even though a lot of things sold out quickly. Eh, it’ll be interesting to see how the line does over the next year or two. 

A lotta folks bought just the quad refills, which was smart because those can be dropped into any magnetic palette. No need to buy LV’s quad case unless you really want it as a collectible keepsake, plus it does apparently come with a couple little wood-handled brushes. I’ll need to see more swatches and performance reviews of the quads (and comparisons to other brands, including Pat’s) before thinking about buying a refill.

@WinglessOne Oh don't worry I slapped it on as soon as I got them. I love the beauty but I am definitely a wearer of all things. I am wearing the Satin Very V. It has only been a few hours, but it is a fantastic formula. I would say it is a good satin formula, not sheer at all. For reference my fave lipstick formula are the Hermes Matte formula and the LE, matte metallic shade they had once (they need to release more of these!),  and the 1 Chanel 31 Rouge I bought. this is on par with both for sure. I like them better than PMG and nicer than my 2nd fave Gucci. 

Oh I should look for some information on the eye refills. Lipstick I can justify but alas the shadows I could not. Very curious to see the refills though!

@ChristalM  Thanks for the feedback! Good to hear the satin formula’s on par with Chanel’s 31 Le Rouge satin. I don’t have one of those but I’ve been very tempted (several times) to buy one; the glass case scares me though. I know those refills also won’t work without the case so hey, there’s a scenario where LV is the bargain after all! 

Now I wonder if the LV store inside my local Nordstrom accepts Nordy Notes. Even if they used to, I wonder if they still do. I’ll have to ask about that! I assume they’ll carry the beauty line since it’s only available in LV stores and LV’s website. If I can use Nordy Notes, then I might end up with one of these lipsticks + case after all. 😅 I need to look up the T&C/exclusions on those notes now. 

The quad refills are 4 individual pans. You can buy several quads refills and customize your own palette in an LV case if you want by mixing and matching shades. Ooooor you can just buy a refill without the case and stick those 4 metal pans inside any metallic palette. The only way they wouldn’t work without LV’s case is if the 4 pans were attached to one another, but they’re not—and even if they were, you’d just need a magnetic palette large enough to hold that flower shape & size. Or I guess LV could’ve made the pans unusually deep, which might make ‘em hard to fit inside most empty palettes. I highly doubt they did that, though. Anyway, you’ll see some YT videos of folks demonstrating how to refill the quad case. Not to further enable you or anything, of course… I’m just sayin’. 😉
