They’re really interesting @makeitup305! The blue and purple are intriguing to me.
@CorgiMommy I used up a jar of the Biossance and was pleasantly surprised by how moisturizing it was. I love their face cream as well.
@makeitup305 it is a newly discovered brand for m e
@CorgiMommy they have some good stuff. I like their Biossance Copper Peptide Rapid Plumping & Hydrating Serum with Hyaluronic Acid + Squalane 1.69 oz / ... and Biossance Vitamin C Rose Brightening and Firming Face Oil + Squalane 1.01 oz / 30 mL as well as their hand cream. They just got sold so I'm hoping they don't change the formulas.
@CorgiMommy I would LOVE to see more colored mascaras back on the market. Even Lancôme used to sell a purple or burgundy one, sometime in the mid 2000s IIRC. They also sold a pink one, and I have a small unopened tube of it somewhere. Anyway, since mascara formulas seem to be improving lately (I’m actually finding several black shades that don’t hurt my eyes), it’s a great time for the return of colorful lashes.
And I think many of us intentionally don’t keep track of our beauty spending, for your exact reason. 😅 Each year I tell myself to do detailed cosmetics spend tracking via spreadsheet, as a way to curb my impulse buys. But nope, here I am, rebelling against that.
@WinglessOne I used to use Mint and at the end of the year looked at all my expenses I had labeled "Beauty" and almost had a heart attack lol Have you looked at the Addiction Tokyo mascara? I haven't tried it but they have tons of shades in various formulas. More brands seem to be doing a few more fun shades lately. I still remember a blue L'oreal one I had when I was a teen.
@makeitup305 Addiction Tokyo has been on my radar since the brand became available in the US (which wasn’t long ago), but I still haven’t bought anything. Their 3 fun LE mascara shades sold out, but I bet their raspberry shade’s still available. That’d be worth trying along with some eyeshadows; I’m curious to see if the shadows work for deeper skin tones.
@WinglessOne they still have some of the fun shades that aren't LE in different formulas. I've bought a ton of their shadows, a couple of their highlighter and both of the face palettes. For the shadows I mostly bought the sparkle shades, which I think for deeper skintones since the bases are mostly translucent, like PMG special sparkle shades. I had swatches on the swatch thread. I haven't tried any mattes and only a few of the other formulas. Those seem more pigmented than say a K beauty shadow so medium to deep shades I think would show up. I would also recommend the blushes and nuancers if you find a shade that interests you. They have good lasting power and good pigmentation.
@WinglessOne I remember purple mascara.
@CorgiMommy #5 That hits so real. You said it. I don't want to know either. 🙈🙈🙈
Nice pick on 9. I hope to see colored mascaras make a huge comeback. Beautiful blue or teal lashes, yes please! 🤩
@CynthieLu @CorgiMommy When I was a kid, I used to watch shows like 10 Years Younger and What Not To Wear after all the morning cartoons were over. (Looking back, I feel like that explains some things… 🤪)
I can’t remember which series it was, but I do remember one of them showcasing blue mascara as an alternative to blue eyeshadow. It was supposed to be a then-modern way to do blue around the eyes because blue eyeshadow was considered dated at the time. It would be really cool to see that again now that I can actually appreciate it. 💙
@JoSometimes @CynthieLu @SportyGirly125 Okay, y’all talkin’ about watching these early 2000s TV shows when you were kids are making me feel heckin’ old. 🫠😂
What I remember most about What Not To Wear is the makeup artist, Carmindy, always claiming to have invented using light shimmery eyeshadow to highlight the tear duct and brow bone. She always called it “Carmindize the eye,” and she did it to pretty much every guest on the show. So when it became a huge trend years later, all I could hear in my head was “let’s Carmindize your eyes!” 🤣
@WinglessOne @JoSometimes @CynthieLuI grew up watching Punky Brewster, I Love Lucy, Small Wonder, Little Rascals, The Andy Griffith Show, Charles in Charge where I had to adjust the antennas when the television got choppy and there wasn’t a remote. I had to change the channel on the tv because it had buttons. Who also remembers the rotary dial phone?
@SportyGirly125 My cartoon-watching kid days were in the ‘70s, so I definitely lived through the remoteless TV days, when TVs had 2 dials instead of buttons and you sat on the floor in front of the TV so you could change the channel quicker. 😂 And I had a rotary Snoopy phone in my bedroom. One of my fellow gen x friends still has a princess rotary phone in one room of his home, and one day we tried to explain how to use it to his visiting niece… talk about someone making you feel old. 🙃
@WinglessOne @SportyGirly125 yeees I remember I love Lucy being on the the morning, I would watch it with my mom before her Soaps ( her fave was All My Children) came on.
I lived in the smallest village in the middle of nowhere growing up. We had like 2 channels lol and I remembered our bunny tv set made of wood with the dial to turn the channel 🤣
I was cartoon watching in the 80's so it was Muppet Babies, Poppies, Garfield and Friends and I think they still aired the really old Spider Man cartoon.
@CynthieLu I had to reply to this, because growing up in a small town in Alberta, we only had two channels as well. It was a big deal when we got channels 2, 4 and 9! And yes, it wasn't until I was in high school that we had a tv that had a fancy-schmancy remote control. 😂
Plus for awhile, we only had to deal the last five digits of a phone number if you were calling someone locally, but that got phased out when I was in elementary school.
@CynthieLu Ah, those big ol’ wood-clad TVs. Sometimes I miss the one I grew up with. And those dang rabbit ears, aka The Things That Must Never Be Touched Once Set To Good Reception. 😂
Aw, I forgot all about the ‘80s Muppet Babies—and I was a Muppet Show fan in the ‘70s. Now that I think back, I do remember occasionally watching some ‘80s cartoons… Voltron for sure, and Thundercats, and whichever DC Comics cartoon had the Wonder Twins. Couldn’t escape He-Man and Transformers because they were my brother’s faves. One cartoon that disturbed me in the ‘80s was The Smurfs, because Smurfette was the only girl. 🤣
@WinglessOne @CynthieLu @SportyGirly125
Reading all of this is a trip down memory lane! So I teach high school science and one of the topics we cover is on light and optics. It’s one of the more obscure units and I always get the “why do I need to learn this? When will ever use it in real life?” attitude from kids. So to make it relevant, I started showing them the evolution of screens, showing them the glory days of having to get up and manually turn the knob to get one of a handful of channels and not touching the bunny ears! I go through the evolution of screens until I get to today’s technology. I used get a handful of kids who would recognize some of the old tech, maybe through older relatives, buts become less common recently. (This past year, I had a student say they can’t watch movies on big screens, they much prefer watching on their phone! 😱)
I remember some of those shows. My Saturday mornings were filled with the Bugs Bunny and Tweety show, Garfield and Friends, Spider-Man, Batman, Transformers… Weekdays had the more educational ones like Sesame Street and Muppets.
@WinglessOne I totally forgot about He-Man and She-ra, we watched both and Hercules where he had that ring of power🤣 and that little goat boy friend.
Ooh nostalgia overload I just remembered Rainbow Brite and the My Little Ponies first movie 💓
Awww I used to feel growing up that Canada was always a few years behind the States. Especially more so back then. Growing up in the early 90's was like the early 80's in the US. Everything trickled over here.. Eventually 🤣
@CynthieLu My Little Pony is STILL going. Some of it is 3D now and I’m sure the ponies are different. My kids just got into it over the holidays and we kinda binged an entire season. My sister was fully invested and rewatched episodes without my girls distracting her. 😂
I bet it's cute! I hope they still have Ponies like Apple Jack *childhood favorite* lol.
Your sister watching again without the kiddos possible distractions made me smile, she was invested. 😄
