Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

I did this tag two years ago and wanted to give it another go. I love to read everyone’s responses and I think it’s a great way to look back on our purchases and review all our goodies.

1) Your favorite purchase of the year.

2) A purchase you regret- why?

3) Most expensive purchase- was it worth the money?

4) Most hyped product you bought- was it worth it?

5) Most shopped at store (for makeup). Did you shop more in store or online?

6) Did you spend less, the same, or more than other years?

7) Rediscovered loves or underrated/underhyped makeup discoveries

😎 A product you missed out on or haven't bought yet but really want

9) Did your makeup routine change in any way?

10) What makeup trend do you think will be big next year?

Here are mine:

  1. My favorite purchase this year was all my Natasha Denona and Pat McGrath eyeshadow palettes. I can’t pick just one, it’s like picking a favorite child. I think if I had to get rid of all my palettes but keep my ND and PMG I could do it. I’d cry, but I could do it.
  2. I think my recent Ulta purchase was overall a regret, not because the products were bad but my heart wasn’t really invested in any of the products, which is how I’ve shopped most of the year. I used points and a 20% off coupon so I’m not too hurt about it.
  3. My most expensive purchase was the Natasha Denona 28-pan palette.  Technically, I got it for 50% off since it was BOGO but it’s still really expensive. I love them, though. No regrets.
  4. The most hyped product I bought was either ND Metropolis or the PMG quads. Both amazing and worth the hype (and price) IMO. Something also super hyped that I just picked up is the CoverFX blush duo. I don’t see what all the fuss is about.
  5. I shopped mostly online this year. A lot of the stuff I wanted was harder to find in store so it wasn’t worth it to drive over and I think that helped curb my spending a bit.
  6. I was pretty good on my low buy this year up until October and November, when all the sales started. I went a little nuts and pretty much undid a lot of the progress I made. However, I think I spent less overall than last year and I hope to do the same next year.
  7. They’re both relatively new to my collection but the EM Cosmetics serum blushes and the Pacifica Alight foundation are both awesome products that deserve more hype. The Smashbox brushes are great quality and I realize that nobody ever mentions them. I rediscovered my love for the Hourglass Ambient Unlocked palette after it was rereleased in the Ghost version this year.
  8. PMG Divine Rose. I want to see it in person before I pick it up but I’m dying to purchase it. The new Charlotte Tilbury Look in a Palette is a runner up.
  9. I think this year I really focused on really dewy skin and using lighter coverage foundations. I used lots of cream products, especially in the summer.
  10. I think we’re going to see a few more wearable and neutral to cool palettes in the coming year.

Tagging some of you, hope you don’t mind! @tsavorite @WinglessOne @Kim888 @Luvstravel @RGbrown @curlychiquita @lmaster @itsfi  @SportyGirly125 @blackkitty2014

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@makeitup305 Oh a mini would make my day 🙂  I didn't realize it was an Art Deco inspiration, but now that you point it out, I totally see it!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@MissPuff  "I regret that I only have one face to use for all my pretties" So true!  Loved your answers.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@MissPuff I love those shisedo whipped blushes! They are so easy.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

1) Your favorite purchase of the year. Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Match Stix Matte Contour Skinstick Espresso I was always very hesitant to contour because I was afraid of overdoing it, but using this made it so easy to do (and easy to correct). It blends so well. Even my boyfriend could tell a difference from when I used it and when I didn't. It gave me more confidence in photos.

2) A purchase you regret- why? EDIT: I just remembered that Huda Beauty Tacky Lash Glue was the one thing I returned this year. I used everything possible to remove it afterwards (including waterproof makeup remover) and I would still be discovering tar-like bits leftover for days! I tried using it (carefully and sparingly) three times and I kept getting the glue on my natural lashes anyway. That's the reason this doesn't work for me. The concept is great and it does allow placing and readjusting the lashes so easily and it lasts. Removing the glue from the lashline is fine but if it gets in your actual lashes... it is an absolute pain.
ORIGINAL: The ABH Alyssa Edwards palette purely because the other palettes that came out this year had the purples I wanted in color stories that better suited what I like. If I knew all those other ABH/Norvina palettes were going to be released, I never would have bought it.

3) Most expensive purchase- was it worth the money? I bought the VISEART - Eyeshadow Palette - 10 Warm Neutral Mattes plus a bunch of Viseart single eyeshadows (I know the singles aren't available at Sephora yet) in order to create my perfect custom Viseart travel palette. The happiness it brings me to look at it and use makes it worth it!

4) Most hyped product you bought- was it worth it? Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist 2.53 oz/ 75 mL Honestly... I tried to love this. It smells amazing but I noticed zero difference for my skin with or without makeup. I purchased this around March when it first came out and kept using it for about a month to try and get more use out of it, but it wasn't worth skipping out on my other mists to do so. So, I stopped using it.

5) Most shopped at store (for makeup). Did you shop more in store or online? Ulta got the big bucks this year with all their discounts and bonus point offers. I shopped almost exclusively online.

6) Did you spend less, the same, or more than other years? Last year, I spent an all time low. This year, I spent a record high. Probably 4x more than last year.

7) Rediscovered loves or underrated/underhyped makeup discoveries NARS Sheer Glow Foundation Bahia My MUFE shade isn't sold at Sephora anymore and since I remembered Nars having my closest shade match when I tried a sample a long time ago, I decided to purchase the full size and this foundation is beautiful! I usually prefer full or close to full coverage foundation, but this is perfect for a day I want to look natural, but with enough coverage to look good in photos.

😎 A product you missed out on or haven't bought yet but really want NATASHA DENONA - Metropolis Eyeshadow Palette I want this palette so badly! I heard amazing things about the different formulas in the palette, those blues, greens, and golds are stunning and the packaging is so pretty too! This one is going to haunt my dreams for a long time, I'm sure. haha.

9) Did your makeup routine change in any way? I never used to wear bronzer because I didn't think it suited me, until I tried BENEFIT COSMETICS - Hoola Matte Bronzer - Toasted and wow, I've noticed a difference! Toasted might be slightly too dark, so I bought Caramel recently to see how that will look. Anyway, I had no idea I was missing out so much by not using bronzer (or at least one that suited me). So, I've changed my routine by adding contouring and bronzer. And although I don't wear false lashes when I go out, I wear them for photos now.

10) What makeup trend do you think will be big next year? I honestly have no idea but I can't wait to see!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@spadersgirl, NARS sheer glow is a lovely every day foundation! 😃

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@spadersgirl a DIY Viseart palette sounds awesome. I’d go crazy if they had a pop up or a brick and mortar store where you could swatch and build your own.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

I also wish they sold more eyeshadows individually. And that those singles weren't exclusive to Muse Beauty Pro website. Then my collection would truly be perfect!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@spadersgirl I wanted some of the shades in the Grande Pro palette but didn’t want to splurge on the whole palette. Hopefully they release some more in the future, and make they available on Beautylish, like Inglot.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@spadersgirl I am finally finishing up the FS watermelon glow mist that I received in a gratis box the first of the year.. I'm so close. Totally agree with you that it smells amazing but I see very little results, I will be glad to get back to better products.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

1) Your favorite purchase of the year. Youth To The People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Night Cream + Mask with Vitamin C 2 oz / 59 ml I use it almost nightly and can't live without it. Also Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, it looks beautiful in its own and under BB cream.

2) A purchase you regret- why? Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette Gorgeous, Glowing Beauty. There was a huge difference between the pics I saw online vs real life. I expected the cheek colors to be more pink. I don't hate it, but I won't reach for as often as I'd like.

3) Most expensive purchase- was it worth the money?  I bought the ghd Air 1600W Professional Hair Dryer at Ulta for $100. I don't think it's worth full price, and if it dies I won't repurchase. It's just not powerful enough, and I don't even have thick hair. Also it blows my fuse a lot, which my last dryer didn't do. I kept it because it was half off and I need a hairdryer.

4) Most hyped product you bought- was it worth it? Again, the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette Gorgeous Glowing Beauty, although I don't know how hyped it was. I think it just was what I was most excited about.

5) Most shopped at store (for makeup). Did you shop more in store or online? I shop online, and Sephora is still my favorite.

6) Did you spend less, the same, or more than other years? I spent less. I usually re-Rouge in the summer, but didn't hit $1000 until this morning.

7) Rediscovered loves or underrated/underhyped makeup discoveries I rediscovered my Charlotte Tilbury Cheek To Chic blush in Love Glow. I don't have a lot of time and it really is so pretty and effortless.

😎 A product you missed out on or haven't bought yet but really want Tom Ford Sheer Cheek Duo in Lissome, it was LE and sold out faster than I thought it would.

9) Did your makeup routine change in any way? I wear way less now, because I changed jobs and get up very early. I only have time for undereye concealer and blush, and sometimes I have to skip the blush.

10) What makeup trend do you think will be big next year? I'm terrible at following trends, so I have no idea lol.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

Good reminder about the CT cheek to chic blush @suzyo. I have one that I should reach for more.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@suzyoLissome seems to still be available on a few retailers online. Have you checked recently? I saw it on Neiman Marcus and i think Beautylish.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@makeitup305  Thank you! I'm conflicted now because the pic on Beautylish looks very different. I'll have to look up some reviews, but thanks again 🙂

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@suzyo   I love that mask!! It’s so moisturizing!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@suzyo that YTTP is so good for the skin! The scent is yummy, too. Probably my favorite sleeping mask.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@suzyo @eshoe totally agree about the YTTP!  I love the scent and the way it makes my skin feel and a little really goes a long way.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

Gah @CookieGirl1 I had completely forgotten about it as I wasn’t using it over the summer. Just re-discovered it (ugh should have been on my list I suppose) and am just thrilled it’s still almost full. A little goes a long way!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@eshoe  It’s honestly a little heavy for hot weather, but it’s soooo wonderful when it cools down and the air gets drier.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@heartsmyface Yeah I guess that’s why it’s been sitting unused for the past few months. Just kicking myself that I haven’t been using it, now is the time to🤷🏻‍♀️

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@suzyo   I agree with you; CT's blushes are so pretty!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

I love the YTTP super berry mask @suzyo, it smells so good!
