Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

I did this tag two years ago and wanted to give it another go. I love to read everyone’s responses and I think it’s a great way to look back on our purchases and review all our goodies.

1) Your favorite purchase of the year.

2) A purchase you regret- why?

3) Most expensive purchase- was it worth the money?

4) Most hyped product you bought- was it worth it?

5) Most shopped at store (for makeup). Did you shop more in store or online?

6) Did you spend less, the same, or more than other years?

7) Rediscovered loves or underrated/underhyped makeup discoveries

😎 A product you missed out on or haven't bought yet but really want

9) Did your makeup routine change in any way?

10) What makeup trend do you think will be big next year?

Here are mine:

  1. My favorite purchase this year was all my Natasha Denona and Pat McGrath eyeshadow palettes. I can’t pick just one, it’s like picking a favorite child. I think if I had to get rid of all my palettes but keep my ND and PMG I could do it. I’d cry, but I could do it.
  2. I think my recent Ulta purchase was overall a regret, not because the products were bad but my heart wasn’t really invested in any of the products, which is how I’ve shopped most of the year. I used points and a 20% off coupon so I’m not too hurt about it.
  3. My most expensive purchase was the Natasha Denona 28-pan palette.  Technically, I got it for 50% off since it was BOGO but it’s still really expensive. I love them, though. No regrets.
  4. The most hyped product I bought was either ND Metropolis or the PMG quads. Both amazing and worth the hype (and price) IMO. Something also super hyped that I just picked up is the CoverFX blush duo. I don’t see what all the fuss is about.
  5. I shopped mostly online this year. A lot of the stuff I wanted was harder to find in store so it wasn’t worth it to drive over and I think that helped curb my spending a bit.
  6. I was pretty good on my low buy this year up until October and November, when all the sales started. I went a little nuts and pretty much undid a lot of the progress I made. However, I think I spent less overall than last year and I hope to do the same next year.
  7. They’re both relatively new to my collection but the EM Cosmetics serum blushes and the Pacifica Alight foundation are both awesome products that deserve more hype. The Smashbox brushes are great quality and I realize that nobody ever mentions them. I rediscovered my love for the Hourglass Ambient Unlocked palette after it was rereleased in the Ghost version this year.
  8. PMG Divine Rose. I want to see it in person before I pick it up but I’m dying to purchase it. The new Charlotte Tilbury Look in a Palette is a runner up.
  9. I think this year I really focused on really dewy skin and using lighter coverage foundations. I used lots of cream products, especially in the summer.
  10. I think we’re going to see a few more wearable and neutral to cool palettes in the coming year.

Tagging some of you, hope you don’t mind! @tsavorite @WinglessOne @Kim888 @Luvstravel @RGbrown @curlychiquita @lmaster @itsfi  @SportyGirly125 @blackkitty2014

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@Zpsid91  Try to get a sample of Anubis from someplace like Twisted Lily before going full bottle. It’s... powerful. 😂 Gotta go light on the trigger with this bottle. But it’s easily my favorite of the fragrances I bought this year. I hope you like it if you try it!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@WinglessOne Thx you so much on the Koyudo brush reviews. And ma’am you’re are wise 😘 Love your comments on no 10 😘 Edit those Koyudo brushes are on my list 😘

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

Aw, thanks @blackkitty2014 ! At least I didn’t go off on my usual “there’s no such thing as ‘detoxifying’ skincare” rant this time. 😄 I guess the beauty trend I want to see next year is just more responsible marketing and product claims from brands in general. I know it’s been an issue since the dawn of cosmetics and/or skincare, but good grief.

If you get either of those 2 brushes, I hope you enjoy them! They’re very lightweight and I love that the handles aren’t lacquered, so they feel different from all my other Japanese brushes. I see more Koyudo in my future for 2020. 🙂

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

ooohh this is a fun post!

1) Your favorite purchase of the year. Farmacy Honeymoon Glow Serum

2) A purchase you regret- why? Nars Sheer Glow (i ended up returning it). I read so many great reviews and it even looked fantastic when I used it for the first few days, then it started just looking too makeup-y even when I try a different primer or sheer it out

3) Most expensive purchase- was it worth the money? Dyson hair dryer (technically my husband got it for me, but he uses it as well :))

4) Most hyped product you bought- was it worth it? Not sure how hyped it is... but the Ilia True Skin Serum Foundation (amazing for making my skin look more fresh and showing off my freckles)

5) Most shopped at store (for makeup). Did you shop more in store or online? Sephora online (Ebates/Raukten baby!)

6) Did you spend less, the same, or more than other years? about the same

7) Rediscovered loves or underrated/underhyped makeup discoveries bumble and bumble go big thickening treatment - once i started using the dyson diffuser, i was able to get that beachy texture i've always wanted

😎 A product you missed out on or haven't bought yet but really want not sure if this really counts, but i wanted the "Briogeo don't despair repair deep conditioning healthy hair game" set during the Sephora sale but still couldn't justify the price even... but i just ordered 2 online today because it went even cheaper!

9) Did your makeup routine change in any way? Nope

10) What makeup trend do you think will be big next year? more vegan things (and hopefully a bigger focus on sustainable makeup packaging)

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@mmmiu  YES to more sustainable makeup packaging! All the fuss about banning plastic straws is ridiculous when the focus should instead be on pressuring companies to reduce their plastic packaging. Beauty companies are among the offenders—not just for actual product containers (plastic bottles, for instance, some of which can be recycled) but for the plastic boxes or foil-type envelopes they’re sold in.

I love Pat McGrath and appreciate that her brand uses some cardboard packaging. But the plastic/foil envelopes of sequins are a bit much, and don’t get me started (again) on this year’s black plastic tinsel that always leaks from PMG shipping boxes. PMG’s not the worst offender, but I wish they’d use cardboard outer packaging for all their products. And I know some folks whine about eyeshadows that come in cardboard palette casing as “not luxurious enough,” but at least I know I can demolish the PMG 6-pans and easily recycle everything but the plastic tray that holds the pans. If the 10-pan Motherships came in cardboard palette casing, I wouldn’t be upset at all about it.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@makeitup305

1) Favorite purchase of the year: farmacy very cherry bright serum and cleansing balm

2) purchase i regret: revolution pro all that glistens palette, why, because the mattes are decent, but the glitters are not the best quality, and tons of fallout, even with glitter glue

3) Most expensive purchase: my bling brushes and Natasha denona metropolis palette, yes worth the price

4) Most hyped product I purchased: Hourglass ghost palette, yep definitely worth it

5) Most shopped at store: for makeup, Sephora

6)  Did I spend less, the same or more than other years: I probably spent more this year,, definitely not less!

7) Rediscovered loves: Charlotte Tilbury filmstar bronze and glow, the bronzer is the best ever for my skin tone

😎 A product I missed out on: Pat McGrath Divine Rose eye palette!!

9) Did my makeup routine change: I am getting much faster now!

10) Makeup trends next year: big bold lips, the plumper the better 🤷

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@lmaster The Farmacy balm is amazing.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@jen81 isn't just the best ever!!??

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@jen81 @lmaster yes!!!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

That Farmacy cherry cleansing balm is so nice @lmaster!! 💖 I have a sample of the serum on its way to me. Looking forward to trying it out.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@itsfi I want a cherry moisturizer now.

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

Yes!! I’m surprised one hasn’t come out yet @CookieGirl1

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@itsfi I actually commented on it on Farmacy's IG and they responded by saying that they'd had a lot of requests for one.  Fingers crossed 🤞

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

Right there with ya @CookieGirl1. 🤞🏼 Not that I need another moisturizer but adding one to that line would be a fantastic idea!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@itsfi loving the farmacy cherry line! Happy to hear you are so far 😊

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@lmaster  Oh the CT Bronze and Glow! I always forget about this, I'm going to go dig mine out, I always love it when I use it 🙂

Bring on the bold lips!!!!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

@MissPuff isn't it perfect! I forget about it too!! But Everytime I find it, I remember how awesome it is!! 💋

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

1) Your favorite purchase of the year.

Any of my Tom Ford eyeshadow quads - I use them the most. Skincare wise - UMA oils, they are the best, and I cannot live without them

2) A purchase you regret- why?

REN's acid toner - did nothing for me, and gave me bumps everywhere 😞

3) Most expensive purchase- was it worth the money?

Oh god - so many lol. Mostly Tom - and yes, a couple Chanel highlighters - also yes.

4) Most hyped product you bought- was it worth it?

Bum Bum creme - I love the scent, but it's more a summer moisturizer for me. I also go through it so fast. I don't think it's worth it - now I just have to find a similar scent in something else 😕

5) Most shopped at store (for makeup). Did you shop more in store or online?

Nordstrom - online, or through my SA.

6) Did you spend less, the same, or more than other years?

Less at Sephora, more at Nordstrom. More on skincare than makeup overall which is a shift, and probably slightly more.

7) Rediscovered loves or underrated/underhyped makeup discoveries

My Laura Mercier eye palette - I'm trying to pan it, but it is so versatile and easy to use.

😎 A product you missed out on or haven't bought yet but really want

Unsure - I usually forget about it if I don't buy it right away lol

9) Did your makeup routine change in any way?

I do full eye makeup and brows almost daily now, rather than just mascara.

10) What makeup trend do you think will be big next year?

Who knows!!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

I received a bottle of Uma oil in a subscription box; looking forward to trying it out @Zpsid91!

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

I hope you like it! I also love the scents - they are so relaxing, sometimes I just smell my hands after applying to my face for a few minutes 🙂

Re: Best, Most, and Worst! [2019 Edition]

They sound luxurious @Zpsid91. Is there one you like more out of all the oils?
