Are you a beauty lover who also lives with disability that requires a few curve balls and hurdles to get through your beauty and self-care routine? Would you like to see a group for us to trade tips on our best shower chair tips, hair drying and style prolonging hacks, staying fresh when you can't shower products or just to come to for support (or even a non-disabled person who wants to learn some new ways to do some of those things when you're not having the best day)?
Just taking the temperature on this and seeing if anyone else would like to see a Disability/Beauty/Support group here (or a nod to a similar group if we have an active one going)...
Let me know and I'll roll with it. Meanwhile, off to see how day 6 of this dry shampoo is holding up since I can't shower today and wishing someone would make a luxury line of Scrubzz body wipes, lol.
@PDXXXX Yes, I became 100% physically disabled 10 years ago...but the issues started long before that.
All because of my many, many spine issues – I've had multiple spine surgeries.
Luckily, I taught myself to walk again years ago after my left leg went paralyzed from my knee to toes (permanent Drop Foot)...I have an abnormal gait but I can walk🥲
I really like the Honest Wipes...it's just water.
You can get them at Target.
I'm not sure if you saw the link for a Discord that another BIC member (makeitup305) created because this BIC Forum is ending tomorrow...permanently.
So, today (June 2, 2026) is the last day😢
The link for the Discord server is https://discord.gg/Ug2x5gScuV
The link is time sensitive.
Hopefully we can create our own little beauty community!🥰
Unfortunately I have become disabled during the past couple of years @PDXXXX. I found large wet washcloths on Walmart that are reasonably priced. BTW love your username being a retired airline employee.
I'm sorry to hear that @Loretta55 : I know from experience the transition into living with a full time disability can be difficult especially during the first few years. That's so cool you worked for an airline - the username is a definite location giveaway, lol. Those towels look great - I will keep my eyes peeled for them.
I really like those cleansing cloths @PDXXXX. They’re huge and they really do the trick for a reasonable price. Unfortunately I started to learn the healthcare system so I can minimize out of pocket costs. I have many fond memories of working for the airline and of course some not so fond memories. The worst is that you need to stay until the aircraft becomes airborne just in case the aircraft returns to the gate. It is one of the few jobs that you can trade or swap your shift with another employee.
It's making me want to do a whole new hunt for products in this arena @Titian06 and/or try everything all of you have suggested too. Like I really hadn't considered the stand alone foams before and now I think I need to!
@PDXXXX You had me at "staying fresh when you can't shower." 🙂
I find that Hibiclens foaming cleanser is easy to rinse off with a washcloth. I've also used
Bliss World's deodorant wipes (which are great deodorizers but a little sticky when they dry,) and Clean Life's No-rinse foam.
Ooh, that's what I'm talking about @Ispend2much6 ! I haven't tried any of the pump foams yet - I think I need to. These are such great suggestions! Thank you!
@PDXXXX I like this idea! I’m a spoonie with an anxiety disorder who’s now also dealing with perimenopause. So these days, my spoons are too few and my anxiety’s spiked too high for me to even think much about my beauty routine. It might be helpful to hear other people’s workarounds for various disabilities, chronic illnesses, etc.
Some of my loved ones have MS and part of my work background is UX/usability design, so I’m always interested in how accessible (or not) a cosmetic product’s packaging is for folks with limited mobility or nerve damage, among other issues. It’s good to get other people’s feedback on how usable something is; helps me decide whether or not to recommend a product to disabled friends and family.
I’d love to know what other people’s favorite body wipes (or other method of showerless bathing) are. 😅 I’m working through a box of Medline ReadyBath Luxe wipes and I’m not sold on ‘em yet.
@winglessone @PDXXXX I was wondering if we needed a perimenopause thread! Count me in as someone dealing with it! Now, it's too late for a thread on this forum! ❤️
Thank you so much for the feed back @WinglessOne ! Oh my, the hunt for body wipes when you cannot shower (one of my disabilities is pretty severe P.O.T.S which often makes me a fainting risk when I stand and can be exasperated by heat like hotter shower water). I haven't heard of the ones you've tried but I use Scrubzz which are supposed to be medical grade and they do the job fairly well (they come in unscented and lavender in both a towel you get wet that foams them up and can towel off with a regular bath towel and also a stand alone foam I've yet to try). With your background you'd be a real asset to the group. It's so funny how little you think about things like product design until you can't use something. Don't even get me started on perimenopause - same boat. Anxiety and perimenopause sounds down right unfair! I will get this going soon and be sure to tag you when I do 🙂
Chiming in on the chorus @PDXXXX , this is a great idea 💡. Also, tagging @TeamBIC , maybe this can also be a group. I see a previous request below ( people with disabilities ).... If that's not in the current mix, can this be pinned as a featured post??
Thank you, thank you @danielledanielle . It would be great to get more input on the desire for something like this. I appreciate your request for the pin!
@PDXXXX - I think this could be a useful thread. We have the Health and Sanity Check-Ins thread, but it has lagged over the past year. It is geared for mental health as opposed to your idea.
I have bipolar II, CPTSD, migraines, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, cervical distonia, and raynaud's disease.
@Titian06 just looked into CPTSD. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. 💕 see you on Discord
Ya know, I was trying to remember the name of that thread @Titian06 . It sounds like you are balancing a lot, Tough Cookie. I also have a physical syndrome that impacts my mobility as well as a pretty heavy mental health load. It could be nice to have it all in one place as I don't have to tell you both physical AND mental health issues can require some beauty hacks. I appreciate your input and openness!
@PDXXXX Great thread idea! I think you should roll with it!
I'm not disabled (just arthritis and PTSD/depression/anxiety which makes me feel disabled sometimes 😅) but I do take care of two disabled kids and that definitely makes it very challenging for me to squeeze in any self-care and just makes everyday tasks a little more difficult. I think even though I'm not disabled, I could still use some tips on how manage self-care and just other daily activities 😃 If I think of any tips to share, I'll definitely come back here 😉
@Shosh85 thank you for sharing. Maybe sometime we can talk on another platform.
Taking care of two disabled children while balancing your own arthritis, PTSD, anxiety and depression sounds like a LOT @Shosh85 . Thank you for the feedback. If I do go for it I'm hoping it can be a space that's useful not just for those who are strictly disabled but anyone who is chronically ill, overwhelmed or just needing tips for integrating a beauty routine during stressful times. In the meantime have you checked out Working Towards Wellness: March 2026 ? There's one for every month that's really good if you haven't and as it already exists I may defer to that.
