Why does my liquid lipstick colour turn almost white on the inner bottom lip area?

It’s really unflattering when you look in the mirror and realize that your colour is still on your lip, but the inner lip looks cakey and discoloured. It’s weird, it looks like this ashy line between the inner part of my lip and the actual lip. Does any of that make sense? If so, what can I do to prevent it and make liquid lipsticks last longer on me? Thank you!

@amber0415,

I have had this happen before too! I agree that it mostly happens with my very light nude shades. I tried using a primer and I noticed less of this, it keep the lip product on and gives a nice base for the matte product to go over.

Why does my liquid lipstick colour turn almost white on the inner bottom lip area?

I know exactly what you mean! I'm still trying to solve it this problem. most people dont know what I'm talking about, but i avoid lipstick because of it. 😞 I suspect it's because my lips get dry and/or because I lick my lips a lot without thinking about it. so I've tried moisturizing my lips well & regularly with natural moisturizers like almond or coconut oil or even with CeraVe Healing Ointment that i use for my eczema and allowing it to absorb fully before applying anything. i dont wear lip color if my lips are dry. I avoid licking my lips when I wear color. and I apply lip liner first under lip color. but that can be a bit drying. Ive found all this helps, but doesn't solve the problem completely. I also take the liner/lipstick off and reapply every so often so it doesn't have a chance to turn into the white-ish stuff you described. but again that can cause dryness. I'd like some more help with this too! lol

This happens to me too - especially with colors that are lighter than my lip color.  I don't know what causes it, but I've suspected the moisture from my mouth has some affect on the lipstick formulation... It's frustrating.  Happens to me with traditional lipsticks too.

Hi @amber0415

I have not had that happen before, but sometimes I fill my lip in with my liner before applying my liquid lipstick and it does make it last longer. I hope that this helps.

Hi @amber0415,

I agree with @ZakiyaBT! Another trick I do before applying my liquid lipstick is to exfoliate my lips before application. I use the TARTE - Pout Prep Lip Exfoliant or the GLAMGLOW - POUTMUD™ Fizzy Lip Exfoliating Treatment. I find this helps my liquid lipstick wear better and longer.

Best,

Rebecca
