Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

July 23 - Are there any shades that you would like to add to your collection?

I’d like to have more greens in general, including an olive green and another good hunter green. And since green bleeds into teal: I’m always interested in another dark teal lipstick. Oh, and greys! I have just one or two grey lipsticks and a couple greiges. I’d love to have a warmer toned grey and a cooler toned grey, plus a good charcoal grey.

The only colors I don’t want, because they usually don’t play nice with my skin tone, are pink corals (as opposed to orange corals which do work on me) and anything in the beige range that completely washes me out. I am not a fan of mannequin lips on myself.

July 24 - What are you favourite lip product brands?

MAC is my first lipstick love. In my middle/jr. high and high school years, I only wore Revlon Milani, and Wet ‘n’ Wild lipsticks. But trying MAC in the early ‘90s sealed my lipstick addict fate. I still love their Satin and Amplified bullet formulas. I’ll forever mourn the end of their Liptensity formula. I like some of their Frost and Matte bullets, but not their Retro Matte bullets which are much too drying for my lips to handle—which means I’ve never been able to wear Ruby Woo. Their Lustreglass formula’s a nice reboot of their old Lustre line of bullets. I wish MAC would release more unconventional shades like they used to.

[ EDIT: Thinking back, I’m not sure Milani was around in the ‘80s…? I definitely wore some of their lipsticks but that might’ve been during college, which would’ve been the early ‘90s. Does anyone over age 35 remember how long ago Milani was available in US drugstores? Now I feel like I’m confusing them with another drugstore brand. ]

Other favorites in no particular order (excluding brands that are no longer available):

  • NARS - mostly the Audacious creams
  • Pat McGrath - every bullet, including the sadly discontinued LuxeTrances; also like her glosses
  • Guerlain - still love my Rouge G creams, and I also like the few Kiss Kiss bullets I own
  • Gucci - I had low expectations of their bullets but wow was I wrong 😂
  • Sephora Collection - Lipstories are one of my favorite low-cost lines
  • ColourPop - Lux cream bullets are my other fave low-cost line (wish they’d bring back more of the fun shades, they had some killer blues), and I like their Lux liquid lipsticks
  • Givenchy - every now and then they surprise me with some very fun shades and formulas, but I also like some of their more conventional items
  • Shu Uemura - any bullet formula except Kinu Satin (that one irritates my lips), and they’ve made very good liquid satins and glosses
  • UOMA Beauty - love the Badass Icon mattes, the original Black Magic metallic bullets, and their lip glosses
  • Lancôme - I’m very sad to see the L’Absolu Lacquer glosses being discontinued (no other brand’s gloss comes close), but I do still like their cream satin bullets
  • Fenty - I keep hoping they’ll release more of the old fun Mattemoiselle shades to the new Icon line (the recent Miss Candy Venom shade gave me hope!); also still a Gloss Bomb fan
  • Lisa Eldridge - both her bullets and her glosses are great

I’ll stop the list there. Honorable mentions: YSL now that their bullets are less fragranced (thank goodness), Chanel Le Rouge Duo liquid lipstick, Stila Calligraphy lip stain, Glossier G Suit, and of course Danessa Myricks Colorfix for when I wanna custom-blend my own shade.

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

@WinglessOne ohhhh how did I forget about the Nars Audatious!  I went through at least two tubes of Anna.  My formula preferences have shifted over the years but dang ... thats a great formula.

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

@missjeanie  Audacious is one of the lipstick lines I nervously watched for a while. When I saw it disappear from Sephora, I worried NARS was about to discontinue it. Glad to see I was (apparently) wrong, whew!

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

@WinglessOne So many great lipsticks. MAC was my first love. I just had a flashback to a lipstick from the early 2000's. It was pineapple scented and I wish I could remember the brand.

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

@Mellmars1185  Hmm, the only pineapple scented lip product I recall was a drugstore balm. Though I won’t be surprised if Too Faced has released a pineapple lipstick. 😄

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

7/23: nothing stands out

7/24: SC used to make a line I loved.  Since then, it's hit or miss for me.  Between nude/Matte lipstick which aren't my style and the pandemic,  lipstick hasn't been on my radar.  I fall in love with so many Dior...but many at Sephora seem too sheer (I'm including the glosses, balms, etc).  I just know I'd have some winners if I had access to testers of PMG or Tom Ford.

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

Best national day ever!!

July 22 - What is your favourite lipstick formula (mattes, satins, glosses, sheer, stain..etc) Matte!!! Liquid.

July 23 - Are there any shades that you would like to add to your collection? Are there any I don't want is a better question for me haha.

July 24 - What are you favourite lip product brands? Liquid lipstick and lip masks for the win!

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

@Samtian Lol at July 23 comment. I love how you speak the truth! This is exactly how I feel but did not have the guts to admit it 😆

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

@Mellmars1185 😄

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

July 24 - What are you favourite lip product brands?
Pmg, CT, tarte, Sephora

July 23 - Are there any shades that you would like to add to your collection?

This is hard to answer.  I’m going to say Nude only because it’s been difficult to find shades that don’t make me look like a ghost!

July 22 - What is your favourite lipstick formula (mattes, satins, glosses, sheer, stain..etc)

Satins are my favorite ❤️

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

I hope you can find the right nude @Cissy63 but the way you describe them 👻 😅 so accurate with the wrong one 💄

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

@CynthieLu @Cissy63 It can be such a fine line. If I end up with a too light nude sometimes I can salvage it by using it over top a dark lipstick. Or a lipliner can help bring my lips back to life lol

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

@Mellmars1185 ; @CynthieLu  yes that’s something I have tried using 💄.  Looking like a ghost is not good.  Unless it’s Halloween 🧟‍♀️

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

@Mellmars1185 That's so smart! 🙂

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

July 24 - What are you favourite lip product brands? MAC, PMG, CT, Patrick Ta, Bite Lab custom lippies, Dior, Fenty

Re: National Lipstick Day 2023 💄💋

July 24 - I am going to go with Charlotte Tilbury for favourite brand. I have a lot of her shades and they are so pretty.

  • All Sephora branded products here were generously gifted by Sephora. Pretty sure this photo's missing a Fenty Gloss Bomb or 2.
  • Pretty sure Lancome's discontinuing the L'Absolu Lacquers, which is a terrible decision because they're THE BEST glosses ever.
  • Aw, so many discontinued products in the bottom row.

  • Photo taken within 5 minutes of application, if I recall correctly. See how the UD side's already feathering? It went to full bleed within an hour. The MAC side stayed like that for an hour before noticeable feathering began, followed by some bleeding.
