Looking for the perfect red (in-between vibrant and vampy)

Hi all!

I am looking for the perfect red lipstick that is an in-between vibrant and vampy. Vibrant (even slightly vibrant) usually comes across very orange on my lips, and I am not looking for anything vampy.

If it helps, I have dark brown hair, light-neutral skin, and darkish green/gray/blue eyes.

@hanalei91, I third the Elson from PMG Labs.  Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color Uncensored is my favorite red, but it definitely needs a liner to help set it.

I have a picture of my lips with the lip gloss on in my review on there. It's red with gold glitter flecks in there and is very shiny and metallic. It lasted me 8 hours, even after drinking water.

Try Elizabeth Arden "Red Door Red" or Almay Lip Vibes in "Treat Yourself"..

@hanalei91 Sounds like you want either a blue-based red or a classic "true" red. Consider one of these: 

• PAT McGRATH LABS MatteTrance™ Lipstick Elson - blue-based red, matte bullet 
• PAT McGRATH LABS LuxeTrance™ Lipstick Sedition - classic red, cream bullet 
• PAT McGRATH LABS LuxeTrance™ Lipstick Major Red - cool toned red, cream; very similar to PMG Elson 
• Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick Ma'Damn - very similar to PMG Elson, matte bullet 
• MAC Matte Russian Red - cool toned red, matte bullet 
• MAC Satin MAC Red - the bluest/coolest toned shade on this list, with a cream finish 
• Urban Decay Vice Lipstick 714 - this is UD's Mega Matte bullet finish which is too drying on my lips, but other folks like it 
• PATRICK TA Major Headlines Matte Suede Lipstick That's Why She's Late - I'm not sure how dark is too vampy for you... for most folks, that'd be anything closer to oxblood, which this shade is not, so I'm listing it here 🙂 
• SEPHORA COLLECTION Clean Liquid Lip Mousse CARNATION - I'd also suggest the shade Rose but I think that one will be too warm toned and/or bright for you; I wish Sephora would put up some lip swatches of these Lip Mousses... I can show you how it looks on me later, though my skin tone's nowhere near yours 
• SEPHORA COLLECTION #LIPSTORIES Lipstick 24 Deep Water Bay (cream finish) or SEPHORA COLLECTION #LIPSTORIES Lipstick 22 A Little Magic (matte finish) - A Little Magic might be too warm? I don't remember exactly how this one looks in person. 

Those are all bullets. If you're looking for a liquid matte, I'll have to give that more thought.

I also find that a lot of the brighter red lipsticks look a tiny bit orange.

When I get a new lipstick, I'll test the color by putting some concealer on my lips before applying lipstick to see the color difference with and without concealer.

I've been eyeing several of the red lipsticks from Yves Saint Laurent Tatouage Couture Velvet Cream Matte Liquid Lipstick 213 Accomplice line.  I got a sample of the pink one and loved that even though it was matte, it was super smooth and creamy.
