esum The Artistry Palette No. 4 Elevate (purchased direct from the brand):

I’m pretty sure esum released all 3 of their Artistry eyeshadow palettes this year, starting in spring. The first 2 palettes in this series didn’t speak deeply enough to me (very neutral/nude). This newly released 3rd one though… how was I supposed to ignore it, especially during esum’s early access 25% off sale? 

My phone camera didn’t pick up the subtle shimmer in the deeper shades.

Through Sunday October 8, you can get 25% off this palette with code SAVE25 at esum’s site. Limit one per customer; I assume that means this is a one-time use code, so don’t try using it on 2 separate orders. This code also applies to anything on esum’s “Best Sellers” page. Code and Elevate palette announcement were sent to folks on esum’s mailing list (including me) a week ago. 

To find this palette at esum’s site, search for “Artistry No. 4.” It might also come up in a Google search. The product page isn’t in esum’s main site nav menu yet because the palette’s in “early access” mode. 

“What the heck is esum?” Ever heard of Muse Beauty Pro? This is their cosmetics brand (“muse” spelled backwards). They also own Kett Cosmetics, if I recall correctly. Muse Beauty Pro used to be an online retailer that sold several other brands, including Viseart. They stopped doing that this year and have changed the focus of the MBP site, giving esum and Kett their own individual retail sites. I’ve posted some other esum products in previous monthly hauls threads, most recently their fantastic brush book (which is on their Best Sellers page, by the way 😉 ). 

This palette reminded me a lot of Viseart Boheme Dream (aka Ribbons Boheme). But Boheme is full of satin metallic shadows, while Elevate has sparkly shimmers and shimmery metallics. Finish wise, Elevate is closer to Viseart Coy—but Coy features more iridescent shadows, and only a few are as shimmery as Elevate’s. Coy is a bit color-punchier while Elevate’s more subdued. Elevate’s top row has a sparklier formula than the rest of the palette; esum calls that formula “tridescent.” They’re not as sparkly as, say, a Pat McGrath Astral shadow, but they’re clearly meant to be used as toppers and lid highlights. 

Not posting my super messy and jumbled swatch comparison photo, especially since I kept forgetting which Viseart palette I’d pulled from. 😄 Eh, maybe I’ll redo that exercise later.
Oh, and the palette casing is interesting. These Artistry palettes have a sliding cover: you can pull the palette completely out, flip the cover around, and fully reinsert the palette so the pans are accessible. It’s a nice space saver while using the palette. Also, the palette’s base tray is magnetic and can be pulled completely out of the bottom half of the case, so you can swap out esum shadows. I had a little trouble getting the base tray out (compared to how easily the cover slides off), but it’s doable. 

And yeah, I don’t know why this palette’s named “No. 4” when (to my knowledge) there are only 3 of these eye palettes. 😄

I used Boheme to try talking myself out of buying this palette; “you don’t need this, you have Boheme, doesn’t this palette look a lot like Boheme, c’mon now.” But I was too curious about esum’s metallic shadow formula and couldn’t resist all the pretty colors. The discount code also helped sway me. 😄

Someone told me esum’s powder matte shadows perform similarly to Viseart’s. Since Viseart is still my gold standard for mattes, I might pick up an esum matte (or matte + metallic) palette if they release one with an interesting (to me) color story. For science!
