Re: Magical May Hauls 2024 ๐ŸŽฉโœจ

Thanks @makeitup305 ! Azelaic acid is very good stuff for certain skin issues. At some point, Iโ€™ll probably move to Rx strength azelaic acid. When that happens, I might keep using an OTC product (mostly likely Paulaโ€™s Choice) at night and use the Rx in the morning.

I think Alternative Stereoโ€™s lip milk has a different purpose than Good Lightโ€™s. GLโ€™s is meant to be used as skincare for lips, not as makeup (though you could certainly wear it solo during the day if you wanted; it has no tint or very noticeable gloss/shine) or lipstick adjuster. I think ASโ€™s is more of a lipstick shade adjuster, but I might be thinking of a different brandโ€™s product. Glossier Bubblewrap was marketed as an eye cream and lip cream, but it wasnโ€™t nearly moisturizing enough to serve either purpose for meโ€”but it did work great for me as a lip serum, which I topped with Aquaphor. Glossier discontinued it a year or 2 ago, and Iโ€™ve been searching for a replacement. I think Good Lightโ€™s lip milk is that replacement: same consistency and texture, plus GLโ€™s doesnโ€™t immediately dry my lips out.

Re: Magical May Hauls 2024 ๐ŸŽฉโœจ

@WinglessOne I use 20% azelaic acid as a spot treatment on pimples and find it really helps me out compared to benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which donโ€™t seem to work for me at all (or even make things worse). I also use a 10% all over my face when Iโ€™ve picked at it or it feels irritated. My skin doesnโ€™t like AHAs or BHAs very much so it was nice to find something that would help with breakouts.

Alternative Stereo has a product called Steaming Milk that looks really similar to the GL. I donโ€™t think itโ€™s meant to adjust other shades just as kind of a lip nourishing primer. I donโ€™t have that one but have one of their  Lip Potion Aqua Glow. Itโ€™s ok, I like the formula but I messed up because I wanted something with a tint and this is more of a gloss. I did see on Olive Young that they just came out with a tint and a Steaming Milk Balm, which seems to be a balm meant to be applied over the Steaming Milk to kind of seal in the moisture, I guess.

Re: Magical May Hauls 2024 ๐ŸŽฉโœจ

@WinglessOne I love eye masks!  What's your other fav?

Re: Magical May Hauls 2024 ๐ŸŽฉโœจ

@CookieGirl1  My other at-home favorite is JayJun Green Tea Eye Gel Patch:

Old photo, circa 2020.Old photo, circa 2020.

JayJun now makes a second green tea eye mask called Real Green Tea Hydrogel Eye Patch. I havenโ€™t tried this version yet, and its INCI list is different enough to make me want to try a jar. This version probably contains more green tea than the other version, plus several plant extracts not found in the other version (doesnโ€™t mean theyโ€™ll be more effective though), and itโ€™s fragrance free (the other version used to also be fragrance free).

All of JayJunโ€™s eye masks have a pronounced curvy shape; you can see it on the jar lid. (No, the actual masks donโ€™t have that pretty floral pattern. Theyโ€™re very thin gel patches that contain flecks of green tea.) That might annoy some people because the patches donโ€™t cover much skin near the lower lash line unless you get creative with placement. (Some folks like their eye masks to sit right under the lash line.) Doesnโ€™t bother me though.

Re: Magical May Hauls 2024 ๐ŸŽฉโœจ

@WinglessOne now you have me curious.  I need to look into these...

Re: Magical May Hauls 2024 ๐ŸŽฉโœจ

@WinglessOne  Great haul! Those eye masks sound like they are really a winner!!

Re: Magical May Hauls 2024 ๐ŸŽฉโœจ

Thanks @ather ! Theyโ€™re fantastic and low-cost. Win-win!

Re: Magical May Hauls 2024 ๐ŸŽฉโœจ

@WinglessOne  Have you ever tried Aveneโ€™s Cicalfate + Lips Restorative Balm? Itโ€™s a thin cream or serum texture. I think itโ€™s pretty good. I know you love your Avene.๐Ÿ’•

Re: Magical May Hauls 2024 ๐ŸŽฉโœจ

@Ispend2much6  I think Iโ€™ve tried it before? I might be confusing it with something else thoughโ€ฆ looking up this product to jog my memoryโ€ฆ ah, the one I tried was Avรจne Cold Cream solid stick balm, which wasnโ€™t moisturizing enough for my lips when used solo as intended. I donโ€™t remember if Iโ€™ve tried Avรจne Cicaflate+ Lips Restorative Lip Balm; I probably havenโ€™t yet. The INCI list makes me think itโ€™s not quite what Iโ€™m after (I specifically want something closer to Glossier Bubblewrap in texture, viscosity, weight, and ingredients), but it does look like a good product.

Now that I think more about it, I mightโ€™ve tried an older versionโ€”probably the one Ulta currently sells (Cicaflate Lips Restorative Lip Cream), which has a different INCI list. I might need to try the newer version sometime this yearโ€ฆ noting to self for Avรจneโ€™s next sale.

  • I intentionally picked shades Sephora doesnโ€™t carry, so I could use other retailer rewards instead of my most recently acquired Rouge Reward (which Iโ€™ll use for different goodies).
  • Okay, NOW Iโ€™ll stop buying so many candles this year. :D
