T’was the week before Christmas and all through the malls, BIC’ers were shopping and collecting their hauls…

Happy birthday to all the December babies! (If you’re like some of my relatives, I’m sorry you only ever got one present at this time of year… You are still very special!)

Ohhhb!!! @caitbird, firstly, what a haul!!! 👀 My eyes were immediately drawn to those Zoologist fragrances. That is a fabulous treat for yourself. Discovery sets are a fantastic way to try out a brand / line - love that you were able to get your hands on the complete set. 😍 I’m curious which one(s) will become favorites. 🤔 

I also really like how you set up the photo of your Zoologist haul. It captures the totality of the collection - they really do have a lot of fragrances - and the flowers peeking through add nice pops of color to the black-and-white packaging. You did a lovely job setting up the photo.

I'm hoping to try one of them tomorrow - the only hard thing is deciding which one to pick first!

@caitbird   😍 So much to love about these hauls! Starting with Zoologist, one of my favorite fragrance houses. Their fragrances tend to be complex, and several are not for the faint-hearted—but they’re all interesting journeys, even the more crowd-pleasing ones. I hope you find some you enjoy! I’ll warn you right now to be very light handed when spraying any of those on your skin; Zoologist fragrances don’t lack in the sillage department. 

I also see one of my favorite palettes by anyone, Circo Loco. You’ll have fun with that one, especially if you combine it with one of your new Clionadh singles and VBB liners. And you just reminded me to order one (or more) of ColourPop’s liquid eyeshadows to test.

And thank you for the tip about the fragrances - I always worry about over spraying since I think my nose is not the most sensitive, and I don't want to bother anyone. So I will be careful and use a light hand with these. I'm looking forward to trying them! Do you have any particular favorites by Zoologist?

@caitbird  This migraine sufferer sincerely thanks you for not intentionally overspraying fragrances in general. 👍 When spraying Zoologist, be even lighter handed than usual. 

My absolute favorite Zoologist fragrance is Tyrannosaurs Rex. It’s a VERY bold and complex fragrance that transforms a few times before its final warm dry down scent. To wear it, I lightly spray the air and then wave one arm through it. (I always wear fragrances by anyone on my elbow pits or wrists; I can’t wear ‘em on my neck or behind my ears because my facial skin’s too sensitive to perfuming essential oils and other fragrance components.) I never wear it on both arms. Even with that light an application, T Rex will knock bystanders down if I go out among people within the first 30 minutes of wear. I personally love that crazy “omg the world is burning and I’m storming through it on a fire-breathing dinosaur” opening, but what love most is T Rex’s overall journey of scent transitions. It’s the first Zoologist fragrance I bought a full size bottle of, after trying a sample. 

Cow is a newer fragrance that’s far more “wearable” but still interesting. Sacred Scarab’s another newer one that’s especially good if you’re a fan of green scents. Sloth is very polarizing: some love it, others hate it. I’m in the former camp, surprisingly. Bat (both the 2020 and original versions) is also polarizing. I could say “polarizing” about many other Zoologist fragrances too. 😂 

The thing with all their fragrances is to wear them, sit with them—even if you’re tempted to immediately wash one off (lookin’ at you, Hyrax, aka one of the most animalic barnyard musky fragrances I’ve ever tried)—give ‘em at least an hour to transform on your skin, and appreciate the journey. I do not like Squid as a fragrance, but I do appreciate the ride it takes me on. I’ll probably never wear Hyrax again, but the experience was interesting. And geez, this is a lot longer than I meant to ramble about Zoologist. 🙃

All the scents you mentioned sound interesting (though really, how could you go wrong with a fragrance inspired by the T Rex!), and it seems like a very interesting collection that will be fun to explore, which is what I was hoping for.
