Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

[EDIT-Updated to not limit to a year, legacy posts for all years.]

A few years ago I was inspired by a challenge on Instagram and we did a makeup inventory. ❄️December 2022 Challenge - 12 Days of Makeup Inventory - Show Off and Catalog Your Collection!!❄️

I was a little behind on planning this year (job interviews, life, not being able to login to the BIC), so I thought we could make this a yearly challenge for 2024+ and broaden it across all beauty categories.

Why participate?

  • I know I went back to my posts to find "dupes" for things that were limited edition (Melt Pumpkin King, in my case).
  • It's a good idea to look through your products every bit to review for quality and cleanliness.
  • Curation is important.
  • Knowing how much in your stash can help with your Low/No Buy or keeping an eye on your backups.
  • The fun of organizing your collection!!

Rules

Please no negative comments about the size or contents of others' collections, this is a place to celebrate our collections. Self-reflection is always welcome though 💖. Please don't take this as an impetus to declutter (unless you want to!).

I'm going to try to get a little contemplative with mine, to see if I would purchase again or not. But don't feel obligated to join that part!!

Timeline

  • January - Face Primers, Nail Polish
  • February - Foundations, Concealers, Cleansers and Mists
  • March - Bronzers and Contours (singles), Serums and Treatments
  • April - Blushes (singles), Moisturizer and Oils
  • May - Highlighters (singles), Sheet Masks
  • June - Face Palettes, Non-Sheet Masks, Tools (Brushes, etc.)
  • July - Eye Primers, Single Eyeshadows (free standing or in custom palettes), Body Cleansers, Body Scrubs, Body Lotion, Body Glitter
  • August - Eyeshadow Palettes, Shampoo, Conditioner
  • September - Brow Products, Eyeliners, Mascaras, Hair Treatments
  • October - Lip Balms, Lip Liners, Lip Glosses, Perfume Samples
  • November - Lipsticks, Travel Sized Perfumes
  • December - Setting Powders, Setting Sprays, Full Sized Perfumes and Body Sprays

APRIL PART 2: MOISTURIZERS:

I have dry, sensitive, red-prone skin that hates everything and am in my mid-40's. I'm also navigating using Tretinoin with sensitive skin right now so that has been an interesting learning curve as well. So, I have been through and tossed a lot of moisturizers! My skin tolerates all of the ones here though (even if I'm tossing some) so feel free to read the spoiler if you are in the same boat.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH THESE PRODUCTS:

Eye Creams:

I don't have much under eye discoloration but do have a bit of puffiness and crow's feet. So, with that in mind...

I am now on my second jar of the Eminence Eye Mask (which can also be used as a moisturizer), use it every morning and have been very pleased with the results. My puffiness has gone way down and it plays well with my under eye concealer. It also has a pleasant thick gel texture that is enjoyable to apply. My most used eye product behind that is the Sunday Riley (which I have been through bottles of since it was released). I like that the Sunday Riley is slightly illuminating and brightens the eye area. My third most used is the Alpyn (I have gotten two bottles now): it's mostly good in the sense it's very sensitive skin friendly. I have almost never used the Avene Eye Cream or Tatcha Silk Peony. Of these I will be keeping the Eminence (and restocking that more than likely) and Tatcha Silk Peony. I've just truly never seen the sort of results I'm getting with the Eminence and want to at least give the Silk Peony a chance at some point.

Day Creams:

In terms of day creams I am definitely a big Avene fan for sensitive skin. Hydrance is the lightest weight, Tolerance is their richer cream and the Cicalfate+ line are for very dry, sensitized skin. Each can be great depending on the season. I found I needed the Cicalfate+ most from this fall on (I put it in the "S.O.S." category but use it as a day cream when needed). I was neither over or under-whelmed by the Dieux but it passes my sensitive skin test. I like the Summer Fridays Rich Cushion Cream a bit more. I am currently using and favor the Aestura though and plan on buying a full size: it's working really well while I'm using Tretinoin and has a great texture to boot. I will be keeping all of these and using as seasonally appropriate or depending on what my skin needs.

Night Creams: I've discussed the Avene so let's talk about the HG product here: the Tatcha Overnight Mask saves my skin every time. I'm currently using a Tretinoin product by Agency and find if I use the sandwich method and layer the Agency Balm first, then the tret and then the Tatcha Mask I wake up with very calm skin. I do like the Tatcha Indigo Calming Cream as well but find it a bit tricky as it's tinted blue and pills. So, I haven't currently been using it often but will say it's a great night cream option depending on your own routine.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@PDXXXX@Shosh85, both of my (grown) sons use Avene Cicalfate+ also! It really seems to help with acne.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@curlychiquita  That's good to know! My 12 yo son was just put on Doxycycline and Tretinoin for his acne and we've been trying to find a good moisturizer to help combat some of the dryness he gets from those medications - will definitely have to try it out on him! I rarely get acne, but I loved how the Avene feels on my super dry face🙌

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@PDXXXX Looks like a great assortment of moisturizers! I really loved that Avene Cicalfate+!

This year I am focusing on products I know and love, so the blacked out ones are there but not being used.

These are not all my oils (except the body ones) and moisturizers, but the ones I am hoping to work on this year.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@Samtian  Nice! Looks like you've got a good variety of things to get through! 😃

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

APRIL PART ONE: BLUSHES (SINGLES):

This was a good start to further decluttering my blushes. I still need to go through my liquid blushes, swatch and do a major purge. But at least at this point I know I'll be letting go of two of the powder and one of the cream blushes. I've photographed the powder blushes so you can see the shades. It's become obvious I definitely have a certain shall we say...preference...for peachy/corally/rosey shades!

Let me know if you'd like my thoughts on any of these or swatches!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

I love all of your Gucci blushes, @PDXXXX! 💕

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Thank you @curlychiquita ! If you haven't tried them I stand behind them 100%. So rare that the compacts are as good as the actual product and the color range is so purdy.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@PDXXXX  Oooh, wow! Such a gorgeous collection! I keep forgetting about the Hourglass liquid blushes - I need to try 'em out sometime 😃

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@Shosh85 I love them but will tell you they come with a huge issue - the packaging absolutely sucks. It has a flexible base you're supposed to able to push that dispenses drops of the blush that almost never works (so much so that I just tossed/decluttered a bottle because it doesn't work even though Scene is one of my favorite colors and textures ever). At first I thought it was a one off and ordered a second bottle and had the same issue. It's a shame because the texture is so great - I'm really hoping they repackage them but we'll see and I'm not hopeful as they just released highlighters in the same packaging 😞

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@PDXXXX  Actually, now that you mention it, I just bought their highlighter from the same line and had issues with the packaging right when I opened it - I hadn't even touched the base of it yet, and as soon I took off the cap it came oozing out uncontrollably. I was bummed I wasted so much right from the start 😕 Great formula, just bad packaging design

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Yes @Shosh85 - you know exactly what I'm talking about then! I was so excited about the highlighter even with my experience with the liquid blush applicator experience I got it as well hoping against hope the applicator would work. Fail 😞 It's so disappointing and as you mentioned the blushes also separate so when I do get the tiniest bit out it's usually a thin/sheer/oily consistency. The product is so, so good that it just blows!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@PDXXXX Ooh those are so pretty!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Thanks @Samtian ! Now I just wish I had an effective method of testing them all - the battle of the peaches, lol - I'm pretty sure those are the exact 4 or 5 shades repeating themselves. I will get through putting those liquid blushes to the test though...someday.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@Shosh85 Oh wow those are stunning collections!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Thank you so much @Samtian! 😃

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

I get way too happy as always seeing how you line these up @Shosh85 and am so jealous of all your minis! Curious what you think of the Summer Fridays Heavenly Sixteen All-In-One Face Oil 1 oz/ 30 mL ...I've considered that one.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@PDXXXX  To be honest, it's just ok, not my favorite. It does a decent job of moisturizing and hydrating, but I don't love how heavy it feels on my skin and that it takes a little while for it to absorb. I typically only use it during the colder/winter months.
