I know there are a few of us on BT that are fragrance addicts, so I thought it would be nice to have a dedicated place where we can share our thoughts.
This is not to take away from the lovely What Are You Wearing Today, Fragrance Edition thread, but more a place to post longer reviews, chat about new brands or releases, and just shoot the breeze on anything good and smelly 🙂
For me, I recently acquired 2 new decants that I've been anxiously awaiting. Ever since Lachaton mentioned that MMM was releasing a new scent called By The Fireplace I've been itching to get my hands on it. My decant arrived yesterday, so I'm looking forward to marinating in it this weekend. Secondly, I recently picked up a tiny sample of Shiseido Nombre Noir. Supposedly it is one of the most expensive failures in perfume history - made by Serge Lutens for Shiseido back in the 80s. Of course, with a backstory like that, I was dying to get a sniff 😄
What's new on your scent radar? Do tell!
New Kilians are on the horizon with new cut glass bottle designs!
From NST Perfume
Roses on Ice ~ Developed by perfumer Frank Voeklk and inspired by a gin with rose and cucumber, on the rocks. Additional notes include lime, juniper berries, rose, sandalwood and musk.
Angels' Share ~ Developed by perfumer Benoist Lapouza. The notes include essence of cognac, oak, cinnamon, tonka bean, sandalwood, praline and vanilla.
You'll probably know Voelkl's work already. He's the nose behind a number of Le Labo scents including the infamous Santal 33. He also did Bois for Commodity and You for Glossier. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Lapouza's work but he's worked on flankers for some classics like Joop and Cool Water.
I also took a page from @Mochapj 's playbook and looked up the trademarks Kilian has recently registered. This includes
Should be interesting to see these when they come out!
@Margalee They are selling at Holt Renfrew for CA$260/50ml whereas the regular line is CA$310/50ml. So cheaper but still pricey!
@pocketvenus Was not a Kilian fan before but Roses on Ice sounds amazing..Voeklk sounds like a perfumer I should know by name...lol
@pocketvenus - I have Bois from Commodity. Its definitely a favorite. In fact I wore it on Saturday.
These will be out in October and with a lower price point than his main range. I am very excited!
@ChristalM a mid-range line sounds interesting, perhaps following in the footsteps of Tom Ford with releases like Ombre Leather.
@ChristalM I'm sorry that didn't work out 😞 I was curious about it too. It sounds like a good idea! My favourite coffees are Kilian Intoxicated 1.7 oz/ 50 mL Eau de Parfum Spray and Zoologist Civet.
@pocketvenus Thanks! I am a MASSIVE Kilian fan so I have Intoxicated but I will look up the civet. Thanks!
@ChristalM yes, you really can't tell from the name but it's not a very strong animalistic scent. Like if you have smelled civet heavy scents, they can be difficult! Civet by Zoologist is not foodie enough to be a straight forward gourmand but it's got a touch of a sweet, rich and dense gourmand for sure.
Oh no, you didn't pick up the coffee notes. I definitely get a lavender latté with café espresso. It's definitely energizing but I'd say it lends more masculine for me, I'd prefer it on a guy.
@ChristalM @I felt the same way when I received my purse spray of Coffee Break. Thank goodness that Jo Malone’s Black Vetyver Cafe, Carolina Herrera’s Good Girl, and YSL Black Opium are in my collection to keep my coffee cravings at bay.
That's too bad, @ChristalM ! You would think something called Coffee Break would smell like strong, rich coffee with maybe a vanilla/creamy accent. Maybe you'll like it better in a day or two since you'll know what to expect. ☕☕☕
Acqua di Parma has a new release, Colonia Futura, a fresh and citrusy fougère that is apparently 99% "natural origin ingredients." So is the 99% like, alcohol?? 😂 Sounds nice though! I love the combination of lavender and sage.
Colonia Futura gives a contemporary twist to traditional perfume ingredients. Its vertical and dynamic structure resonates with the first subtle notes of vetiver enveloped in a bright citrus explosion of Bergamot, Lemon and Grapefruit, enhanced by the spicy nuances of pink pepper. The vibrant beginning becomes softer in the heart of the fragrance, revealing a sweet fougère and aromatic spirit that characterises this new perfume, in a fantastic duet between the grassy fresh nuance of lavender and the almost tactile aroma of sage. This harmony finds perfect completion in the background with vetiver bringing a woody touch with an earthy nuance.
This one also slipped past me, a new Exclusifs release from CHANEL
Le Lion de Chanel is described as a fragrance characterized by strength and charm, luxury and elegance, built around amber and leathery notes softened with vanilla and bergamot.
The composition opens with a fresh and sparkling combination of citruses - bergamot and lemon, and then develops with warm and oriental tones. Labdanum resin, with its animalistic nuances, develops in the heart of the perfume, accompanied by a base of vanilla from Madagascar, patchouli, sandalwood and musk.
@pocketvenus - I saw this one about a week ago. I never thought to post it. I need to exercise my perfume recognition muscles a little more! 🤪
@Titian06 I'd forget sometimes too 😛 Especially when I spotted a new release in the wild!!
