I know there are a few of us on BT that are fragrance addicts, so I thought it would be nice to have a dedicated place where we can share our thoughts.
This is not to take away from the lovely What Are You Wearing Today, Fragrance Edition thread, but more a place to post longer reviews, chat about new brands or releases, and just shoot the breeze on anything good and smelly 🙂
For me, I recently acquired 2 new decants that I've been anxiously awaiting. Ever since Lachaton mentioned that MMM was releasing a new scent called By The Fireplace I've been itching to get my hands on it. My decant arrived yesterday, so I'm looking forward to marinating in it this weekend. Secondly, I recently picked up a tiny sample of Shiseido Nombre Noir. Supposedly it is one of the most expensive failures in perfume history - made by Serge Lutens for Shiseido back in the 80s. Of course, with a backstory like that, I was dying to get a sniff 😄
What's new on your scent radar? Do tell!
Diptyque city candles are back! Only available until Sept 23
@pocketvenus, have you used these before? I do like Diptyque and the packaging is beautiful!! 😍
@itsfi I haven't! These are only available in boutiques or online. The packaging is very, very pretty though. I think the boxes are just as gorgeous as the candles.
Here's my perfume story 🙂
The first one i got into was Aquadi Gio (original for women), its been discontinued years ago.
Then i discovered Be Delicious by Donna Karan.
After that i got into the Sol De Janeiro bum bum cream scent, and when i saw that they made a mist i got it. They also made the perfume now, but im fine with the mist, its long lasting, on me anw. Over time i got tired of the scent because it overpowers on everything and last forever lol, so i take breaks from it.
After that i discovered a scent from Dior that i like, and its J'adore in Joy, its the only one i like.
Because of the price, i decided to not buy it.
The last fragrance i found and love and will buy some time is Melrose Place by Ouai.
When Aquadi Gio was discontinued i was like Whyyyyyy, because its the only scent i liked. It was fresh, citrusy and a bit floraly. So when i found Be Delicious, i was happy because its even more fresh and a bit sweet, less floral.
Sol De Janeiro is very sweet, caramel with something else i cant pinpoint (i think they say it has a pistachio scent, but pistachio dont really have a specific strong smell do they?, lol so idk).
Dior J'adore Joy is citrus and floral.
Melrose Place by Ouai is also citrus and floral.
North Bondi by Ouai i dont like, smells like medicinal desinfinctant to me lol.
Im not really good at describing scents, im sorry for that, but i hope it still gave you guys ideas 🙂
OH: i also love Glow by Jennifer Lopez. Never had the chance to buy it ;(
@Emy10 are you referring to Armani Beauty Acqua di Gioia 1.7 oz/ 50 mL Eau de Parfum Spray ??
bc that hasn't been discontinued.
@treestar86 No ;(, i was talking about the original(?) "Aquadi Gio" for women. They discontinued it years ago.
Also, last time i checked (which is months ago now), they still sell the one for men.
@Emy10 ahh, ok. didn't know there was a different version.

Ashore by Mackenzie Reilly who did Marc Jacobs' Perfect and with other mega noses, did Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb Rollerball 0.33 oz/ 10 mL Eau de Parfum Rollerball
Meander by Mackenzie Reilly
From Fragrantica
ENCLAVE is inspired by THE FJORDS OF MUSANDAM
As the last sun rays bid farewell to the fjords of Musandam, Enclave sophisticatedly portrays the freshness trapped inside a rich, earthy warm hideaway where land meets the sea.
Blue and green notes of Spearmint and Cardamom Oils transcend the fragrance stages, giving it a freshness that lasts forever, while the pleasantly surprising Amber, Labdanum, Cinnamon Oil and Saffiano together with earthy Vetiver capture the surrounding hot mountains at that precise moment in time.
CRIMSON ROCKS is inspired by THE MOUNTAINS OF AL HAJAR
Crimson Rocks conjures the majesty of Al Hajar mountains in all their glory at dusk. Standing tall at the top, one is engulfed by a sweet sense of peace. For this fragrance, Amouage brought to life an intense Rose, one that is resilient to withstand extreme weather yet gentle, welcoming and just like the mountains it calls home, rooted to stand the test of time. Texturing the Rose are red notes of Cinnamon and an earthy Jujube Honey Accord which along with Oakwood and Cedarwood paint the Al Hajar mountains in deep crimson hues.
ASHORE is inspired by THE COAST OF RAS AL JINZ
On the coast of Ras Al Jinz, mid-summer, when the sun is in the middle of the sky, Ashore, depicts a mirage of the senses. As one’s eyes are saturated with light, a surreal brightness blends all that is around them, leaving only the wind that carries the scent of spices from the East. This intoxicatingly white floral fragrance of Jasmine, Ambergris and Sandalwood offers an olfactive interpretation of the union of the sun, the sand and waves while the Cardamom and Turmeric recall the scent of spices from India.
MEANDER is inspired by THE PLATEAU OF DHOFAR
Meander explores the exhilarating feeling of happiness in a land of fog, lush green mountains and running streams. Drawing inspiration from the Sultanate’s southernmost Governorate during the monsoon (Khareef) season, Amouage creatively translated the surreal fog using Frankincense and smoky Vetiver, the rich greens with Cypriol and Jonquille, while its caramel-coloured mud is brought to life with earthy Sandalwood, Carrot Heart and Orris root notes.
The fragrances of the Renaissance Collection (100 ml bottle, Eau de Parfum) will be available in all Amouage boutiques and distributors worldwide starting September 15th at a price of USD 340.
The new bottles also look more modern. Definitely curious to give these a try!
@tjffcI'm waiting for more reviews to come out but Persolaise's was very positive 🙂
Ooooh @pocketvenus, there are a couple of these that sound so intriguing.
@itsfi I'm especially curious about Ashore and Meander. I'm also watching Persolaise's reviews of them and they're very positive. How I wish I could try them all right now!
Completely agree @pocketvenus! I could go for a mini sampler set of these scents. 😉 The frankincense in Meander caught my eye and I’m very intrigued by what scent the interplay between the florals and the spices in Ashore will produce. Honey, rose and cinnamon notes are always scents I like so Crimson Rocks sounds nice too but Ashore is the one that I’m most captivated by.
@itsfi Persolaise described it as beautiful and joyful. I could use a happy jasmine scent 🙂
Yes @pocketvenus, a happy jasmine scent would be wonderful! 💖
Nasomatto has released another fragrance, Fantoma. As per usual, no notes pyramid has been released.
The ad copy reveals nothing!!
The new fragrance is the result of a research process aimed at causing the effect of earthly bliss. Prepare for the invisible power that will cross your senses by filling with love and mystery that can hide an evil spirit... Fantomas by Nasomatto is exciting, rich, sexy and mesmerizing fragrance with dark and strong notes, beautiful and absolutely surrounding its scent.
There's a few YT trailers that suggest this scent is not at all serious. One uses a kind of retro 70s pulp horror font and there's a man with an exaggerated accent who says, "It's me, Fantomas, a faceless smell that conquers your soul. A soul with no identity..." The monologue goes on and ends with a very heavy handed mwa ha ha ha ha! and the entire thing plays over a cheesy rendition of Bach's Tocatta in Dmin for the organ. The other two feature a mad scientist caricature with a wacky mood board making his head disappear.
Nasomatto is probably best known for its cult fave, Black Afgano. It's one of the first niche houses I ever tried so I have a soft spot for it, but ultimately, I have never gravitated toward its fragrances. I'd of course still like to try a sample though!
@tigergirl20 Glad you found something you really enjoy 🙂
Update on the new Jo Malone releases, which includes a body wash and what I think is a lotion?
Fig & Lotus Flower sounds like an aqueous sweet floral
Luscious lotus flowers skim the surface of a shimmering pond in the ancient Hanging Gardens. Their delicate water-splashed petals glide down the shaded walkways, sweeping over the plump, juicy figs that punctuate the bountiful trees. This light floral fragrance is brought together with neroli to capture the essence of a luxuriant landscape.
Cypress & Grapevine is inspired by the fougere genre with a cypress wood chord to flank the classic fougere skeleton of lavender, coumarin, and oak moss.
An evergreen woody scent inspired by the statuesque trees of the ancient Hanging Gardens. Discover the story of the cypress, the slender and spellbinding tree that brings its aromatic notes to our new Cologne Intense.
