does the brushes used affect how pigmented an eye shadow is?

Good tools always help! You can use a great product with a terrible brush and think something is wrong or use a great brush with a terrible palette and think something is wrong. With that said, brushes are super versatile. Keep playing with the ones you have and you might find a way to use them that works for you. Also, sometimes a light shadow look can be really nice when you're not going for something dramatic or bold!

@ruthb123 I agree that the density of the brush affects how "dark" an eyeshadow looks.  A brush that is densely packed will pick up more product.  🙂

Yes and no. The type and shape of the brush will affect how much shadow/pigment is picked up from the pan and then also how it's applied to your eyelid. The same shadow can look quite different depending on how it's applied. What look are you going for?

I've been using these brushes that I bought from eBay on this elf eyeshadow palette I have and I noticed that the couloir doesn't really show up on my eyes even when I prime. So I thought maybe it's just the elf palette itself. But then I realized it does the same thing with my juvia's place palettes and those are one of the most pigmented eye shadows on the market.

Hmmm, if that's the case, it might be the brushes themselves, especially if your Juvia's shadows are not showing up. Re the ELF palette, some finger swatches will give you an idea of how pigmented the shadows are (ELF is a little all over the place, some products are great, others are meh)

Like @Anonymous said, good tools always help! Some super cheap synthetic brushes will just not pick up any product on their bristles, no matter how much you swirl or pat the shadows. This doesn't mean you need to buy super expensive brushes, but perhaps try a different set than the ones you're currently using? Real Techniques is a drugstore brand that's carried in quite a few places (including Ulta and Target) and they make some great brushes at a very affordable price point. Sephora collection also has some good brushes, though a little bit more expensive.

Absolutely. I personally think goat hair picks up more pigment than synthetic. Density also plays a role as well. Morphe had a kit right now. I think it's called "everything eyes". You get 12 brushes for $25. I just ordered it and have been using them all weekend. I have a lot of eye brushes at different price points and it's definitely a bundle worth purchasing. Hope that helps!
