Tips for using Farmacy Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

I bought Farmacy Clearly Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm 3.4 oz/ 100 mL and have been impressed by how well it works.  However, I'm looking for tips on the best way to use this.  And, how much product to use.

So far, I've used it five times.  Twice I used it on wet eyes, and I know from experience and the directions not to do that again.  It wasn't nearly as effective.

What I've been doing is taking some, rubbing it between my fingers, and then massaging over my eye area.  It takes a while to break through my mascara.  I'm wondering if I should keep massaging over the mascara until it breaks down and then rinsing and cleansing.  OR, should I massage-rinse-massage-rinse, etc?

And how much product is too much or too little?  Do you all typically go in with the amount you need all at once, or gradually add more and more?  (I'm also not sure that my eyes love this.  I've noticed they tend to have a bit of a pink tinge afterwards.)

I'm scared of making too much of a mess, as when I check my progress my eye area looks like the Hamburglar.  And, then I wind up with mess on my cheeks which is more to wash away with cleanser.  I'm not necessarily against that, but when I started using this I got some red bumps on my cheek is usually a sign that a product isn't agreeing with me.

Thanks for taking the time to read through all this.  I might be making too much of this, but the results are so good that I want to make this work.  I'm also feeling the pressure of figuring this out in 30 days with Sephora's return policy!

OMG another eye drops user @Titian06 . My preferred eye drops are GenTeal which have become very hard to locate. I recently purchased 20 boxes because they are so hard to locate.

Re: Tips for using Farmacy Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

@Loretta55 - I use the GenTeal nighttime gel (that super thick goop in the skinny tube) at night.  During the day, I use the TheraTears.  I have beyond extremely dry eyes!  I actually have punctal plugs in both eyes.

Re: Tips for using Farmacy Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

I’ve had dry eyes for 30 years @Titian06. I have noticed that aging has been my biggest benefit with my eyes feeling better. I have had punctual plugs in the past along with tear duct cauterization. I had calcium deposits removed from both eyes about 10 years ago. After that I just use eye drops.

Re: Tips for using Farmacy Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

I really enjoy using my Farmacy Cleansing Balm @greeneyedgirl107 . I know that you have a problem with the scented version but I really enjoy deeply breathing it in before I even start use. I use the spatula provided and I usually start cleansing at the lower half of my face. I rub the product between my fingers and apply. I finish up the upper part of my face and I always use a wet washcloth to remove the balm before I use a regular cleanser. Also if I am testing a lipstick the cleansing balm removes it beautifully.

Re: Tips for using Farmacy Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

@Loretta55 I'm wondering if I'd benefit from a washcloth or makeup eraser but I don't want the extra hassle of washing them.  How do you break down your mascara?  How much product would you say you use on your eye area?

Re: Tips for using Farmacy Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

I’d say maybe a pea sized amount of balm per eye @greeneyedgirl107. The cleansing balm on its own does a good job of removing mascara. I think that using either a wet washcloth or makeup eraser is the most effective way to remove it in my opinion.

@Loretta55 thanks for the info!

Tagging @lmaster @Loretta55 @CynthieLu because I believe you've used Farmacy balms.  TIA 😊

Re: Tips for using Farmacy Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

@greeneyedgirl107 ok this is how I use it, I get about two quarter size scoops out, then I rub it all over my face and my eyes all together lol I use a wet makeup eraser and remove my eye makeup first, then rinse the eraser out then go in on my face

Re: Tips for using Farmacy Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

@lmaster helpful!  Thanks so much!  How do you break down your mascara?  Do you massage eye area, rub the lashes between your fingers or rely on the makeup eraser?

Re: Tips for using Farmacy Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

@greeneyedgirl107 so I rub the balm in my hands, go over my face then take my fingers and massage the eye area, I use small circular motions gently and I go under the eye to hit those bottom lashes good with product, I have my makeup eraser wet and ready to go, I'll designate an area of the eraser strictly for my eyes, and I use circular gentle motions with that as well

@lmaster thanks for the info!  It's most appreciated.
