I'm open to any price range because I never actually buy until there's a sale 😉
@Anonymous I used to have almost all Urban Decay brushes exclusively on my makeup table. Then I discovered IT Cosmetics brushes and replaced all my UD brushes with those because I find them so much softer and nicer to work with.
They make my favourite eyeshadow brush ever: the Heavenly Luxe No-Tug Dual Eyeshadow Brush. The fluffy side blends eyeshadow on the lid effortlessly. The other end is perfect for carving out details and lining the bottom of my eye with shadow.
Hope this helps ☺️
Oh I actually have this brush (I bought the It cosmetics "It's your must have brush set with brush roll" back when It cosmetics had a deal where you got a free "It's your must have brush set with brush roll" brush set when you spent $60. I actually bought the same set as the free set so I got 2 sets for $60!). ! I wasn't sure if this one brush was going to be enough to create different looks though.
The brush sets I got have these brushes in them:
Heavenly Luxe Complexion Perfection Brush
Heavenly Luxe French Boutique Blush Brush
Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Brush
Heavenly Luxe No-Tug Dual-Ended Eyeshadow Brush
@Anonymous You are so lucky!! I paid full price for all of mine 😅 But they are so worth it.
Yes, that brush is enough for sure. I create quite complex looks with it. The key is to take the time to layer and blend carefully. Start with your lightest shades first and work your way up to the darkest. Trying to apply a darker shade directly to your skin will lead to patchy results, so you always want a base of lighter shade(s) first.
Also, a great eyeshadow primer is key. I’ve tried about twenty kinds now and my favourite thus far is this one:
Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer
Have fun trying out new looks! ☺️
Oh yes I have read up on eyeshadow primers. I have a few UD eyeshadow primers I picked up while on 50% off sale! I'm knew to doing this, but I've been researching and trying to pick up everything only when on sale. Thanks again!
Here's a good article on blending your eyeshadows.
@Anonymous Great article complete with pictures and a gif! I feel like I'm guilty of that whole back and forth blending...whoops 🙂
I'm totally guilty of being in a hurry and applying way too much product at once. When I have all the time in the world, my blending game is on point, though.
@Anonymous IT does make good brushes but they are a bit pricy. Real Techniques is great and affordable, I reach for those a lot. The Sephora Collection brushes are good too!
@Anonymous I recently picked up some Morphe brushes to add to my Sephora Collection brushes and they were honestly a fantastic buy. They are budget friendly and great quality. My shadows have never blended so nicely! Highly recommend.
All of my eye brushes are Urban Decay and I love them! They're all the double ended brushes that came with various palettes, but you can buy most of them from UD's pro brush line. The finger brush is a great one for smudging out the inner and outer corners of your eyes, the tapered blending brush is good for blending your crease and the iconic eye shadow brush is good for under your brows and on the lid. Ultimately you don't really need brushes to put on eye shadow. I have a friend who exclusively uses her fingers to do her eye makeup, because she doesn't like using brushes. In the end, it's going to take practice to get the perfect eye look, but if you are going to use brushes, it's important to get the right ones, or you'll be disappointed. Luckily Sephora has a generous return policy, so if you don't like the brushes you get, you can return them.
Ok Macys has UD pro brushes on sale right now. Which of their eyeshadow brushes do I need? There's a ton of different ones for eyeshadow and I don't know what I'm doing lol
I would go with the Finger Brush, the Tapered Blending Brush and the Iconic Eyeshadow brush. There's also a cool tool you can get from both Sephora and Ulta called a color swap. It's this super porous black sponge in a tin that you run your brushes over to get the eyeshadow off, so you can dip it in another color without any transfer. This allows you to get more use out of fewer brushes.
Oh wow I'm definitely getting that color swap tool too! Thank you so much for the advice!
@Anonymous It’s a handy, inexpensive tool. Definitely worth picking up. Super-easy to wash and lasts forever. I have this one and would definitely recommend it:
Sephora Color Switch by Vera Mona
Yes, this is exactly the tool I was talking about. I have a full sized one and the little travel sized one too. I love it!
