Dry Undereye Help

Hello everyone!

I have pretty dry skin, especially around my eye area where I’m prone to eczema flares (usually in the dry winter weather). I also have perma dark circles. I’m 21 so no concerns about anti-aging or wrinkles, just trying to stay hydrated and brightened.

I only had my first trip to Sephora the other day so I’m quite new to non-drug store skincare. One of the people I talked to in-store recommended The Ordinary multipeptide eye serum for my concerns (hydration and fixing the dark circles a bit) and I think it’s not doing well with my skin. I used one drop across both eyes twice in my PM routine and both mornings I woke up with irritated under eyes. 😞 Absolutely loving the squalane cleanser that I also picked up and I do feel hydrated with the serum but I also have red bumps and I’m a bit itchy so I don’t think it’s worth the irritation.

If anyone has any other product recommendations, I’d love to try. I know dark circles are the hardest to fix so really any sort of difference there + hydration would be something I’d welcome.

Re: Dry Undereye Help

Are your eyes only flaky + itchy during eczema flare ups, or constant? If it’s constant, I would definitely recommend speaking to a derm/professional first before trying different eye creams, in case in caused by a specific allergy, etc.

During my eye eczema flareups, I try to keep my skin nourished overall and avoid using any extra products w/ ingredients that could introduce variables, and just stick to the bare essentials like a gentle cleanser + toner + moisturizer (love First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser + First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair® Cream Intense Hydration + LANEIGE Cream Skin Refillable Toner & Moisturizer with Ceramides and Peptides for this). I also use a super thin layer of Vaseline on my eyes to calm down the flareup which works like a charm.

When I’m not having flare ups, I like Inkey List’s Caffeine Eye Cream which brightens my dark circles and doesn’t irritate me. I’ve heard great things about Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Firming & Lifting Eye Cream 0.5 oz / 15 mL (my dry eczema prone skin loves squalane in general), so that could be worth a try!

Re: Dry Undereye Help

Updating to say that both products worked so well for me! LANEIGE Water Sleeping Mask with Niacinamide & Squalane 2.3 oz/ 70 mL was not irritating at all and helped quite a bit with the hydration my skin needed, excited to see what it does with multiple uses but the real excitement came from how much the ALPYN Super Peptide & Ghostberry Moisturizer for Eczema, Barrier and Wrinkle Repair 1.7 oz / 50 mL helped my eye area! I mean I was still a bit scaly this morning on the side of my left eye and after using a tiny bit of the moisturizer, it’s gone away completely. Obviously not going to fix a flare 100% but it really gave me the gentle and much needed soothing hydration that area needed. I’m sure I’ll be 100% with another use either the AM or PM. Just interested to see how it does under a bit of concealer but I’ll definitely be using that one in the future.

Re: Dry Undereye Help

I only got the eczema diagnosis after experiencing such irritated eye skin during pandemic winter months that my eyes would be swollen shut! I get it in other areas too but it’s all flare-oriented and the facial spots obviously are most noticeable. For me, it only comes in very rare flares usually when the weather is especially humid or dry, winter weather especially. But I now have 2.5% hydrocortisone prescribed for my face and haven’t experienced a super bad flare ever since. I’m trying to find things that are compatible and soothe, both to help keep my skin hydrated and prevent as well as repair after a flare.

Right now, I’ve just been using the The Ordinary Mini Squalane Cleanser 1.7 oz/ 50 mL for extra hydration (which I have been loving) and Kiehl’s ultra face moisturizer (couldn’t find the tag but I’ve also been loving this). I also think my skin is loving the squalane! I might try that biossance eye cream. My mom tried to snag the GWP for me but was too late 😫. Sometimes I can’t tell if Vaseline helps or worsens, I’m pretty sure Aquaphor doesn’t do well with me.

I’ve now tried The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Eye Serum 0.5 oz / 15 mL and innisfree Green Tea Caffeine Bright-Eye Serum with Niacinamide 0.33 oz / 10 ml and I’m pretty sure even the innisfree eye serum wasn’t working with me either. It’s possibly the caffeine that wasn’t doing me any favors in those products but I’m not too sure. The Ordinary Serum I tried definitely was worse but I returned the innisfree one too because I think it was drying me out again.

I think I’m slightly giving up on the eye creams for now lol… but I haven’t had any bad reactions to Laneige yet and so I’m trying the LANEIGE Water Sleeping Mask with Niacinamide & Squalane 2.3 oz/ 70 mL for extra hydration to help with the repair process after a flare and I got the tiny ALPYN Super Peptide & Ghostberry Moisturizer for Eczema, Barrier and Wrinkle Repair 1.7 oz / 50 mL to try. The latter I will put on the eczema spot on my wrist and maybe a tiny under my eyes if it goes well.
