I placed an order on 06/28/17 and when I received it I noticed that none of the free samples that I had selected were shipped to me. Instead I received three completely different samples.
The time before this this that I placed an online order I didn't receive any samples at all. I'm not sure if anyone else has been experiencing problems with their online orders or if it's just me. I placed another order two days ago and I hope this one finally arrives correct.
I just placed an order and I am already anticipating receiving the wrong samples. This has happened the last several times I have ordered; but before the last year this has NEVER happened. I understand something being out of stock but clearly that's not the case. It's a waste of my time to look at each sample and carefully choose based on products I may like to buy in the future if someone in shipping is tossing random crap in ever order. I'm on Pacific time and waited until 12:00 to place my order. I placed it at 12:13 and 3 of the items in my cart were out of stock. Extremely annoyed. If this order is screwed up I am going to start buying from Ulta or Amazon.
I just received all wrong samples too, not even same type of products. I received garbage, things I will never use. It's sad because I am usually an ULTA shopper. I am platinum member there, I spend way too much money on makeup. I might have a problem, lol. Anyhow, I have been told over and over by people Sephora is better, make the switch, they give so many more samples, etc. I am now not convinced at all of Sephora being better. I feel disappointed, lied to. I'll admit Sephora sometimes gets better kits than Ulta however Macy's/Macy's online sells same brands Sephora does that Ulta doesn't and for everything not at Macy's I can buy from makers/brand websites. So Sephora is pointless. I don't save money, I don't get to try more/different samples I want. I think Sephora needs to just get rid of choosing samples. Sure give the samples that's awesome but stop making online customers think they are getting one thing and they get another, that's called lying/fraud. I never had any issues at Ulta with samples. I switch to Sephora umm, lies, issues with order, feeling let down. I didn't bother calling to complain, I know the deal. What are they going to do really? Make excuses, offer to send out more samples, that's not happening. Tell you they are out of stock but they are not. Give you some points, maybe apologize. It solves nothing (their problem), end of story they need to train staff, warehouse people whatever better. There website needs to be current what's in stock,** if that's so called the problem** they are selling to customers. Get it together Sephora! BTW, the samples I didn't receive you could still choose when I received my order online, yup, so funny. I mean frustrating. I know it's just samples but I feel lied to and that is what matters and makes not want to shop at Sephora. People are already telling me to still give them a chance. I just placed another order for things I didn't even want but could give away so I can see if samples this time is different but I don't have my hopes up. Last, I noticed comments about Salt Lake City, UT and that's where mine came from too. Maybe Sephora should look into it. I filled out a website review telling them Salt Lake City UT has an issue with samples. Fingers crossed, say your prayers, etc. lol
Mine today was from some place called Aberdeen MD :T
Honestly I'm so annoyed. It's been the third time straight I receive a wrong sample. They were still in stock... Get yourselves together Sephora! Either hire more people or re-train them! Also I ordered a Tom Ford sample and it never arrived with my order.
I keep getting wrong samples too. In fact I received an order yesterday afternoon and only one out of the three samples I received was one that I actually picked. I really wish they'd change something and start sending people the right things.
I have had the same thing happen to me for the last few months, missing samples, no samples, etc., etc.. I have even called Sephora to complain and they tell me the same thing, that the items must have been out of stock that I wanted so they had to substitute or they simply forgot to put them in. Even though the samples are still showing in stock online...
I just tried something different with my last order to test their excuse out. I picked the samples of things I did not want, to see what I would get. Low and behold, they ended up giving me at least 2 good samples that I have been wanting to try for months. Funny enough, those samples are not even listed on the website. So win-win for me!
I hope Sephora can fix what ever their problem with the samples soon. It is fine if they make a mistake once, maybe twice, but after a while, it becomes an issue and it makes me lose confidence in them. I understand they have a business to run and try to save face by making excuses, but it really looks shady when their excuses have proven to be false. I tested them, and from reading the comments, I am not the only one.
PS- Don't come for me telling me to stop complaining about free samples. I am simply replying to this thread. I saw someone try to come for this woman on another thread and I would have had the time that day, I would have told her how I felt about her unsolicited advice when she inserts herself into threads like this that don't pertain to her. If reading threads like this cause you to be irrationally angry then its time to log on and put the computer/tablet/phone down. This is a public forum owned by Sephora, not your personal space. Reading threads like this, helped me to realize that I wasn't the only one with this problem. If you don't like it, please don't come for others who are probably already frustrated because of dealing with Sephora and your snarky comments come off the wrong way.
Can't be more accurate than this

Every order placed with Sephora has missing or wrong samples. If you complain they offer to give you points. Sephora if you are reading this I DO NOT WANT POINTS! I simply want you to send me what I order. Read threse messages get you shipping department working properly. Stop disappointing your customers or you will loose us.
it is not like the products you sell cannot be ordered elsewhere.
This exact thing happened to me. I've placed over 10 orders since early July, and every single one has the wrong samples. The MOST aggravating thing is that my last five orders I placed didn't come with the Deluxe Sample I ordered (you know, the one you get after entering a specific code for the product and have to spend $25-$35 to receive). The orders just did not have the Deluxe sample. Infuriating! I went to my favorite local Sephora yesterday and spoke to a woman who works there. She said one of her customers said her order must have been packed by someone who was on their last day because they clearly didn't care!
I just wish that Sephora realized it is stuff like this that actually means a lot. There was a reason I bought most of my makeup from Sephora, but I'm buying less and less because perks are better elsewhere.
This happened to me too! At least once. Sometimes I forget what I ordered, but the last time I know what I was supposed to get and did not receive what I ordered. The things I did get were deep dark foundation samples, which I would never order, as I'm super fair.
I just received my order today, 7/25/17, and none of the samples I requested was included. All 3 were items I can't use. While I realize that they are free, the shipping isn't. The samples are the main reason I shop online because my local store doesn't give samples anymore. This isn't the first time this is happened but it might be the last time I bother ordering online, or at all. I can get most of what I use at Ulta.
Happens to me all the time. Generally if my order comes from the Salt Lake City warehouse I get substitutes. IIf my order is filled from the Maryland warehouse I get what I ask for.
Generally during the busiest times, i.e. April sale, holidays etc. I'm am lucky to get any samples.
@Lolo730 I usually get the right samples, but recently got substitute samples. I, too, dislike when this happens. I personally think that if sample are going to be substituted, they should be from the same category - so fragrance for fragrance, peel for peel, etc. I hate getting something that I'm totally not interested in - the samples are why I order online 99% of the time.
