Why can’t I use my temp credit card????

Before applying for this card it said I’d be able to use the card immediately however whenever I try to check out it says due to security reasons I am unable to use my temporary card???? So frustrating, I wanted to buy some wedding makeup with this card to do a trial this weekend. I probably wouldn’t have opened the card if I couldn’t use it immediately.

I'm sorry about this! I believe the shipping address needs to match the billing address/the address you applied for the card with. If the issue persists you would need to wait until the physical card arrives. I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause!

I've called and you can't get anyone on the phone. No one has the time to wait for SIXTY MINUTES. Huge issue to open a card only to not be able to use it.

this just happened to me too and it’s now late august 2022 so their bank should have fixed whatever problems by now. I’m so mad! I only signed up so I could purchase the make up I wanted with a discount today and it won’t work. I have health problems and I was really excited to try some new stuff for the first time now that I’m feeling better!

Having this issue this week (July 2022) as well. Was on the phone with literally the NICEST Sephora customer service agent yesterday who tried everything and couldn't get the temp card to work. I work in finance and this would NOT fly and could lead to a lawsuit VERY easily. There are no clear disclaimers that let you know that the temp card won't work and you won't be able to use the card at checkout as promised. Incredibly frustrating and incredibly misleading. 

UPDATE: just called the bank number included in this thread and they are not even answering phones right now, it's just recorded audio, so that's super unhelpful.

I am so sorry to hear about this! Our bank partner, Comenity, is undergoing a planned system update that is taking longer than expected and it does not appear their phone line is currently available. I recommend contacting Comenity via phone at a later time for further assistance and more insight into this. I understand this may be frustrating and I'm sorry for this experience!

It's JULY 2022 and they haven't fixed it yet. I clicked to apply for the card since it offered 25% off my first purchase, it gave me a temp card, but it won't actually let me use the temp card.  I get a payment error. I'm making a large purchase for a wedding and 25% off is a big difference. I'll call them in the morning and if they don't straighten this out, my very large purchase goes to Ulta instead.

It's 2022, I just got the same error message saying for security reasons they can't accept my temporary credit card. It's crazy how I took the bait of 40% off when you use it right away, when in reality you can't even use it. Customer service is so unprofessional on the phone. The fact that it's been happening since two years in a row and nobody took an action to change it. I have no words.

March of 2022, and I also got the same problem. I wouldn't have even bothered opening the card. I mean, not only does it pull a hard inquiry on your credit, but then you can't even use it, when that's literally what the email said that got me suckered into this in the first place. Pre approved, just apply and get 25% off your order. Okay, cool. And now it won't let me use the temp card? Thankfully I had no problem with my temp Ulta card (which I have had for years) when I applied. Maybe I'll just stick to them.

July 2022 it's still happening.  I cut up my credit cards two years ago and don't have one, didn't want one, but the 25% off is huge because I'm making a big purchase on behalf of multiple people for a wedding.  I just took a hit to my credit when I applied for this card and now I can't even use it.  If they don't fix this, I'm spending the money at Ulta and I am done with Sephora.  It must be fraud of some sort to make a false offer and ping someone's credit report.

It was honestly an easy fix guys. They just want to verify it's actually you using the temp card. I just called 888-809-1011 and they placed the order for me on the temp card, applied the freebies and the first time card discount. Now it's verified and I'll just wait for the physical card to come in the mail while I wait for the order lol.
