Unused gift card balance disappears while checking out

I’m seeing a lot of unused gift cards with a balance of $0.

has anyone encountered what happened just now as I’m trying to check out. I entered 2 different gift cards, the correct balance shows up. I hit order and my payment fails and my gift cards have disappeared from my checkout page. I enter them

again and now they have $0 balance?! WTF?! 

I will contact customer service in the morning but am discouraged by the comments I see here. Sigh. Sephora please make it right!
