Unsuccessful Authorization

Hello,

I recently placed an order and when I went back to the page to check the progress I discovered that my order was cancelled and the reason stated was "Unsuccessful Authorization". I don't know what this means and I am unsure of what to do now as I know my payment method was valid. Help ?
