Sephora Gift Card Scam

I received a gift card of $50 for my birthday and when I scratched off the number on the back of the card and tried to make a purchase, the gift card balance was $0. This is the second time this has happened to me! Has anyone had this issue before?

I called customer service and they said they can't do anything about even with the information of the person's account who originally purchased the gift card in store. This is unbelievable.
