Return without Receipt

Hi, 

about one week ago, I received a 100 dollar gift card to Sephora. I ended up purchasing 109 dollars worth of product. Today, I went into a Sephora store without a receipt, and I was told I could not exchange the items even though it clearly states that I purchased the items on my account. She said I could exchange but it would be for less than half of what I paid for the products. I don't understand if it shows on my account I purchased these items, why can I not exchange them? The items simply did not work for me. Help! Is there anyway to get my receipt online?
