Return at khols without a box

Hello! I bought what I thought was the perfect foundation at a Kohl’s sephora and used it a few times for about two weeks. Only to realize that it’s totally not my shade. I tossed the box out… still have the online receipt. I tried to return it today and they didn’t let me, saying that I need a box. There’s nothing on the Kohl’s website that specifies return with original packaging. Can someone help?
