Merchandise credit stolen - nothing can be done?

I feel like I’ve been sent on a wild goose chase here. My car was burglarized and one of the items stolen was a Sephora merchandise credit. I have the card number and can call and check the balance of it, but I can’t access it at all. I called customer service to get help and they had me call the store. The store said there’s nothing they can do and asked me to call customer service and see if it could get transferred to online credit. I called customer service again who said they can’t do that, and to call the store again (and told me that stores typically don’t know what customer service can do). I asked if the balance could at least be zeroed so that the thieves can’t benefit from it, and nope.

This is really frustrating - how can the Sephora systems know the balance on my card, but be unable to do anything about it? I already got robbed, this run around is just insulting.
