How long does it take for your points to show after making a purchase? Is there a difference between jcpennys store, Sephora store, online?

I bought a couple of things a few days ago, went back yesterday to return one item from a previous purchase and one item from my latest purchase, both for different items in store. I was shown the wrong product when making my return/exchange yesterday. I came into the store again today, made my return for the right item, finally. During this though, no points have been tracked, associate in store did ask for my email only during my latest purchase before making any of my returns. Just curious and annoyed why my points are not being shown in the app.
