Cannot use temporary Sephora credit card, so what's the point?

I needed to place a large skincare order, so I decided to apply for the Sephora credit card so that I could save 25%. It states that you can use the temporary card to place an order, but that's not the case. I contacted customer support and was told that I need to wait for the physical card. I've seen other posts saying that you can't use the temporary card for purchases over $500, but mine was only $300. This is very frustrating. What is the point of offering a temporary card???
