14 digit gift card

My daughter received a gift card for her birthday for $50 but when she went to use it inside a Sephora store, they told her that the gift card did not have enough digits and when they scanned it, it would not work. When I called customer service, they immediately seen that the gift card had money on it but could not assist me with using it in store. This seems to be a common issue what can we do to receive our $50?
