14 digit gift card number

I received a gift card that seems to only have 14 digits and the website and the phone number on the back of the card says that it needs to have 16 digits. I have been reading and it seems to have happened a lot. I was on the customer service chat and the person said that “unfortunately it cant be used online but you can use it in stores” but I found out that the card didn’t work because I tried to make a purchase at the store and it never worked.
