T3 Curling wand

Just purchased and received my T3 curling wand.

 

Love the look and feel of it, and it gets SUPER hot! 

 

BUT..... is it normal for it to smoke slightly while your hair is wrapped around the barrel?? I usually straighten my hair and I'm pretty new to the hair curling game.
