Hey all,
My hair was a beautiful 3B my teen and college years. After issues with hormones and kids I have only wave left. It is frustrating not knowing how to style your hair anymore. My hair is now 2B, 2C would be an excellent day.
I plan to have a no-buy for makeup for one year (started Nov 2018) and focus on finding the right hair products. I want to take the process gradually and give things time.
I started using Devacurl in Spring 2018. I had low-poo, one condition, and arc angel gel. My hair looked and felt like straw and was not getting any curl back so I stopped using all three products.
In October I chopped off a lot of hair for donation and hoped to get some bounce back. The stylist (Deva certified) recommended no-poo, one condition, coconut styling cream, and b-leave in gel. The routine was okay but I wanted more out of my hair.
Over the past week I changed my styling product to arc angel gel. I know, I know, the stylist and others have already said it was too heavy for my hair. I just wanted to experiment and find what product caused my hair to turn to straw in the spring. Arc angel seems to be in the clear. But since it isn't helping with any curl, I will pass it on to my 3C/4A mom.
I plan to resume the last routine and see how it goes or if it still seems lackluster. My one condition is almost out but I have a one condition delight. I want to see how my hair reacts to this.
I also have samples of Decadence. I believe it will likely be too heavy but it is time to find what works and what doesn't.
So here begins my hair journey. Hoping to either learn to ride the waves or return to curl.
Please I did not intend to make him feel bad about that @ShortErica. He does resemble Prince William.
@ShortErica - OMGosh! You and your family look so cute!!! 😘
@ShortErica @itsfi and other Wave Riders - I mentioned a month or two ago that I wanted to try Seed Phytonutrients' Moisture shampoo since I am so happy with the conditioner. I finally ordered it from the company and have been using it on and off for about a month. The shampoo is liquidy with a low-poo lather. I don't smell a scent, but my scense of smell isn't very good. I have to use two pumps to feel I've cleaned my shoulder length, fine thin hair. I do feel like my hair and scalp are clean, but I do not feel like either has been moisturized. When dry, my hair feels soft with coarseness I don't normally feel. By mid day, my scalp was itching like crazy! The next day (my nonhair washing day) was agony with how bad my scalp itched. My hair also didn't look that great. I've been using it on and off, using more or less shampoo, combining it with other shampoos, but I get the same results every time.
When I ordered more of the conditioner, I selected a sample of the no frizz shampoo (not the exact name). I don't have an issue with frizz, but I do have the occasional flyaways. Using this shampoo, I now know what frizz is! Yes, it made my hair frizzy. I've used it twice now and the good news is that it has not contributed to my itchy scalp.
I've also tried the adwoa beauty Baomint™ Moisturizing Shampoo 14 oz/ 414 mL . I've been using it on and off for about a month. It really does a good job cleaning and moisturizing my hair and scalp! My hair is really soft after it dries. Unfortunately my scalp becomes very itchy by the end of the day. The next day is very unpleasant. Unlike the Seed Phytonutrients shampoo in which I can't pinpoint what is making my scalp itch, I believe the issue with this one is the massive amount of mint. Some mint is very helpful in controlling an itchy scalp. When I mixed this and the Seed Phytonutrients together, it actually calmed down the mint, but it didn't help the Seed Phytonutrients.
At this point, I think I'll stick with the Verb Ghost shampoo!
I'm sorry this is so long. I've been meaning to write this up in separate posts for quite some time! 😄
Spill the beans @Titian06! Saves the rest of us from buying not good products. Sorry about the itchy scalp, that has to be frustrating. At least you have a different one you know won't cause it.
Could someone please help me and recommend an intense conditioner for my hair? I probably need to use one for an entire week, every day, to help it get back some life. I'm afraid I don't like Deva Curl or anything strongly scented. It's so dry it absorbed too much hair coloring and now it's almost black, accidentally. lol Thank you!
Hi there @Ispend2much6! When I need some serious hydration, I rub plain old coconut oil into my hair. Then I put a plastic bag on my head for about an hour (I know — stunning!), then shampoo afterwards. Not sexy, but it works for me!
@Ispend2much6 - My go-to is Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair!™ Deep Conditioning Hair Mask 8 oz/ 237 mL and my regular is Seed Phytonutrients Moisture Conditioner.
@Titian06 Thanks! I haven't the Seed conditioner yet.
I have not tried it but @GeorginaBT recommended Gisou Honey Infused Hair Mask. She mentioned it in the September favorites thread.
@Ispend2much6 maybe the SoCozy Kids Conditioner might work for you. I found it a bit much for my hair. It is super thick. On days when I used the conditioner but not a styling product it even did a good job of keeping frizz at bay. I can't remember what it smelled like. I got it at CVS. It looks like they updated the packaging and I'm not sure if the formula is also changed.
@ShortErica Thank you so much! I'll look for it (and I have a CVS coupon!)
I hope it is what your hair needs. Coupons are the best. I love when CVS has those 35-40% off an item coupons @Ispend2much6.
Having a fairly wavy day
Yesterday I used the DevaCurl Buildeup Buster and then the Briogeo Honey Bear Mask (I don't think that's the real name but easiest way to describe it). Today I wet my hair, brushed out the tangles and then did DevaCurl B'Leave-in Gel.
And here's another picture I found but I have no notes of what I used - shame on me!
Your hair has really gotten long @ShortErica . Your waves are gorgeous!
Thank you @Loretta55! I need to get it at least trimmed but it seems like less of a priority since I don't go anywhere.
@ShortErica - Your hair looks great especially in the first picture! The color and curls are so awesome! 💖💖💖
