Hair type?

How does everyone know what type of hair they have? I can't find any "hair type" quizzes etc...I'm 38 yrs old and just trying to now figure out how to take care of my dry, wavy hair, and accentuate the curls I do have. (I've been a wash and go queer tomboy my whole life, with no female friends who are into hair/makeup, and a mom who used NO makeup or helpful products at all, please don't judge me!)

I'm hoping this is a helpful picture for determining what your curl pattern is (if your hair is curly) I've found curly hair is hard to work out since all curly hair is not created equal. Otherwise, I know Aveda stores used to do a scalp analysis thing where they'd look at how the actual skin under your hair was doing and combined it with looking at your hair to give recommendations. Of course that's dependent on whether you're near a store and willing to pay their prices. Is there any specific issue you're looking to resolve?
